Urgent first world problem with cheese!!!

Cheeseequalslife · 17/09/2021 08:18

I was gifted a hamper a while back, obviously ate all the chocolate, drank the wine.... along with some posh crackers (that tasted like cardboard) there was some fortnums triple cream cheese. It has languished alone in my fridge full of Aldi and i just saw is use by tomorrow....

What I can do with ?It sounds delish but not a fan of of its own?

Thank you for the understanding of urgency

It’s cheese.
I ignore the best before date.

Cheeseequalslife · 17/09/2021 08:20

Even for cream cheese?

Peel off the rind and make this delicious salad www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.deliaonline.com/recipes/main-ingredient/apples/apple-cider-salad-with-melted-camembert-dressing%3famp

I know it says Camembert but your cheese will be fine.

Alternatively, cut slices in the top, stuff it with garlic and Rosemary, drizzle olive oil on the top, bake it and serve with crusty bread.

Tiktok pasta. Put cream cheese in centre of oven proof dish, surround with cherry tomatoes. Drizzle with garlic oil, pepper and chilli flakes. Bake for around 30 mins. Stir in chopped basil and mix through cooked pasta.

Roundlampshade · 17/09/2021 08:24

Broccoli and cheese soup? I think you’re a bit worried which is why I’m offering up cooked cheese options. Have a Google, there are some wonderful recipes out there.

PurpleDaisies · 17/09/2021 08:24

Use it as a filling for cannelloni with spinach, pine nuts, mushrooms etc.

Freeloadingtosser · 17/09/2021 08:25

Yes to the tiktok pasta! Or, very decadent macaroni/ cauliflower cheese

Cheeseequalslife · 17/09/2021 08:25

That sounds great! Have you made it?
TheFlis12345 · 17/09/2021 08:28

Just looked it up, it’s a creamy soft cheese, not actually cream cheese like Philadelphia so will be fine for a bit longer, but I would just eat it with some nice crackers and chutney!

Cheeseequalslife · 17/09/2021 08:28

All sound amazing thank you!

cream cheese you say?
there are many recipies on the phili website, but my family like pasta with it:

cook pasta as usual. the last 5 min of cooking time add a punnet of cherry tomatos (or cubed courgette or carrot). drain, but leave a bit wet.
stir in the cream cheese, crush in a clove of garlic, add herbs to taste. season. done.

HunkyPunk · 17/09/2021 08:28

I just googled cream cheese recipes, and there’s lots of delicious sounding options! I always find it really satisfying when I manage to save food from being wasted by making something I might not have thought of otherwise. Good luck!

Oldraver · 17/09/2021 08:30

Yes I don't think I it's cream cheese just triple cream, I buy it from Waitrose (it's called Village)

It's best eaten at room temp, I always but cheese in waxed paper once it's open.

And er, if you do get any guru ness you can cut it off

Oldraver · 17/09/2021 08:32

This stuff

gogohm · 17/09/2021 08:36

Stuff baby peppers

PurpleDaisies · 17/09/2021 08:41

It’s not quite what I’d pictured initially. It would be lovely in a toastie with something like fig jam, or maybe in a caramelised onion puff pastry tart. Very easy to make and very nice to eat!

Hoppinggreen · 17/09/2021 08:47

Looks a bit Camembert like so I’m sure it will be ok for a while

Cheeseequalslife · 17/09/2021 08:56

Yes that’s the one! The price (although I didn’t buy it) alone wants me to do it justice. (Oh the calories though...)

I have googled but finding the replies so much better - thanks again!

That looks gorgeous!

Too good for pasta sauces etc.

Just eat and enjoy. With good red wine. It will be fine for a few days after it’s date.

EdgeOfTheSky · 17/09/2021 09:13

Sounds a bit like Vignotte which I think is ‘double cream’ and is my favourite.

PLEASE try this cheese as it is and report back!

grey12 · 17/09/2021 09:26

You do realise the cheese was to be eaten with the "cardboard" crackers, right? Grin

Cheeseequalslife · 17/09/2021 09:38

Haha yes. Maybe the amazing cheese would have redeemed the crackers (but they were not nice!)

Best before on a soft cheese is more usually code for “will finally be ripe by” in my experience.
