The breakdown of my day:

  • 9am - drop DS off for first day at preschool. Got permission from boss to start late but it was made very clear he wasn't impressed. Had made sure nothing suffered for me being late.

10.30 - told the interview for the internal promotion I was due to have at 1.30pm has been postponed to a date TBD.

4.15-4.45. Went through how stuff works with new boss. I had his position and gave it up after children because they wouldn't let me go part time. My choice but I do miss my job.

4.55. In car to go home. DH phones in a state because he has a black tie dinner tonight and he can't do his tie and has 5 mins to sort it before he leaves. He's never been able to tie a tie and couldn't find his predone one. Baffled why he left it so late. He was stressed, I calmed him down and we got it sorted. Would have appreciated a thank you message afterwards.

5.30 get back after horrendous traffic to relieve nanny. Baby is clingy (fine when I'm not here). Won't be put down. Toddler 'needs' 6 wees and 2 poos in an hour. Baby does poo too. Both desperate for attention.

6pm - try to feed baby whilst with DS, she is too distracted and won't feed.

6.30pm, baby in bath (no hot water, see black tie).

6.45 - settling baby, DS calls for help with a wee. Leave baby and prays she settles.

7pm - DS in brief bath. Baby cries. Keeps crying. Leave DS watching traffic to calm
baby. fail.

7.20 - put DS in bed with a story, meanwhile baby is screaming. Say goodnight to DS and go to baby. DS cries the moment I leave.

7.45. Finally get baby to sleep. Go downstairs. DS cries for water. Back up 2 flights of stairs.

8pm. Finally get a drink after being at home since 5.30.

3am: wake up badly needing a wee (11 weeks pregnant). Can't go back to sleep.

5am: just drifting off to sleep again when next door's dog starts barking at nothing. That's it, no more sleep for me! Up with the toddler at 6.30am. I have a stinking cold, not covid but can't take anything for it because of aforementioned pregnancy.

7am: DH heard that his grandmother passed away yesterday. She was in her late 80s and had advanced Alzheimer's, but still a big shock for his family especially since she was in a care home and allowed very limited visits because of Covid. We make plans to go round and be with MIL at the weekend.

10am: "asked" by an important client to "keep an eye on emails" over the weekend "if necessary" (translation: I'm working over the weekend).

4.30pm: Get some actually quite constructive feedback on a project at work, but tiredness, cold, pregnancy hormones and inability to juggle family life and work very well overwhelm me and I start crying. Luckily I am WFH so no one sees.

5.30pm DH comes in and says I look really ill. Do not tell him my eyes are puffy and streaming because of upset not illness.

Sounds like a shit sitcom tbf! But yes, it was a bad day.

God the fun never ends does it.

DS now poo'd in bed, all over a cuddly toy and is now upset. Fucks sake.

Oh God! I hope you get to actually have that drink soon.

@89redballoons so sorry to read about your DH's grandmother. And I hope the early pregnancy fatigue stops soon for you.

I had a dentist appointment today and all I could think about was "if he asks for suction he does not want me to suck on his finger" like that poor mumsnetter did.

I felt really paranoid that thinking about it would give me the impulse to do it

Thankfully I did not.

DueyCheatemAndHow · 16/09/2021 23:33

Hahahaha I still think of that and it always makes me laugh
