My boss is a dick

He's not a bad person but he's a bad manager. I am very experienced and a senior employee but sometimes he treats me like I don't have a clue. Yes, I am looking at other jobs, before you ask.

Anyone else want to rant about their boss?

Yes please - my boss is an arsehole, he rants at people, writes emails in capitals and makes everyone feel worried and on edge. Worse than him though is a new 'number 2' my boss has brought in to help him, this new guy has a huge god complex, mansplains everything and has a face I would like to punch.

Thanks OP, that was quite therapeutic!

Not current boss ( self employed) but previous line manager. Absolutely shit at managing, so over compensated by targeting one person a week to micro manage, thus wasting enough of her time that she had to work through all breaks to catch up. She also -
Illegally prevented her team from taking mandatory breaks.
Blocked any attempt at staff progression via training ( I successfully stopped that one )
Had a pal in the IT dept. who would delete any emails she sent that could get her into trouble off the system ( I used to print them off before they disappeared)
Was CONVINCED that me & a colleague were after her job.
Made colleague cry by screaming into her face after colleague had returned from compassionate leave.
So a total fucking arsehole.

I hope she left/was sacked/managed out of the company? 🌹

My boss is ex army. He’s bloody useless. It’s only taken him three years to realise he’s my boss. He never answers emails with requests, ignores his phone, is ineffective in communicating, he moans no one communicates with him, he tries to have HR conversations with you when others are present like it’s an informal chat about your contract, slags people off, gets mardy easily… the list goes on. He doesn’t even know what I do, he’s so stupid.
Thankfully, I’m biding my time to leave, I can’t be doing with it.

Themadcatparade · 17/09/2021 09:51

Micromanager, can’t be bothered even coming to work anymore and has dementia but wont retire.

A fucking nightmare.

wtfisgoingonhere21 · 17/09/2021 10:03

Two bosses.
One works on site the other at home but constantly ringing micro managing moaning etc etc about the smallest of things.

Winds up on site boss who then is quite stroppy personal bitchy to the rest of us.

Off site boss is a narcissist and controlling twat

I was here way before him and have stood up to him finally this year so it's settled down abit but he's full of shit when it comes to finances and has complete control to the extent that on site boss (owns 90%) has no actual idea what's going on within the business.

I want out.
Just recently put in a request to condense days to free up time to earn money doing other things as I can't actually afford to stay at this job anymore and was refused so have just put in for another meeting to explain that if I can't condense days I will be giving notice after over 20 years of being here and being the highest earner for them.

The promises of pay rises and extras never come out and there's always an excuse.

They live in their own bubble and have no idea or interest in their team.

It's a diabolical way to run a business and I'm ashamed of it to be honest.

Worked so hard to get to this stage and it's just dawned on me recently thats it's actually all for bugger all and a pay cheque that's the same as if I'd spent the twenty years working a normal job without the stress.

I don't think I could ever find a boss as bad as one of my ex husbands bosses.

The guy owns the company, he bought it with his wife's inheritance, then divorced her after cheating on her for years with prostitutes. He committed VAT and Corporation tax fraud, created false accounts, used the company to pay for prostitutes, holidays, a full house renovation. He used to shout at people multiple times a day for no reason, bullied and belittled staff, watched porn for 6 hours a day in the office. He employed a prostitute on the pay role PAYE so he could have sex on tap, he defrauded both customers and suppliers, in the end he was even arrested for child pornography (but got off in the end due to some technicality about how the police handled the evidence) and all the staff left. However he is still going, still committing fraud, found new staff, fucked them over as well, bought himself a new "girlfriend" who is also on the payroll.

I always used to think that things eventually caught up with people, but he has been doing this for 25+ years and HMRC, the Police etc. do not seem to care.

Ahh what a cathartic thread! My boss is my head teacher. She taught for less than 5 years herself before becoming deputy then head. Only ever worked in the one school. She speaks so patronisingly, loves a box ticking activity. No idea what good teaching is so is very trend driven. Very patronising. Shuts down conversations. Talks far too quickly and walks off asking 'is that clear' so no real chance to think through what she's said and challenge or discuss. Sends staff well being questionnaires which are not anonymous but ask about staff experiences with senior leaders. Incredibly frustrating.

EllieSattler · 17/09/2021 10:55

I've had 4 line managers in 6 months.
First one - really nice person but a total idiot. Seriously, they tried really hard but were just incapable of grasping anything that was going on.
Second one following a departmental restructure - great but left after a month (sideways development)
Third one - great but got promoted after 8 weeks
Current one - hasn't introduced themselves, hasn't answered any emails I've sent, doesn't appear to know my team exists. Useless.

Themadcatparade · 17/09/2021 10:56

Just an addition - by boss has only just mentioned that one of the staff members is off sick today and has been all week. Meaning stuff that needs doing has not been done or picked up by anyone and she’s only just considered to mention it.

endofthelinefinally · 17/09/2021 11:01

MatildaIThink
My late son's boss was very similar. Add in false accounting and embezzlement. Police not interested.
Still getting away with it.

One of mine defrauded the care company I worked for to the tune of thousands, the replacement refused (and I mean barred the door and then locked it) to let me call an ambulance for someone, and then sacked me on the spot when I called one from my mobile. Stayed manager until struck off by regulating body (which was actually quite fast) and threatened me personally for 'ruining his career'.
The above shit show was why I left care in the first place, because I was lucky that I got my job back after whistleblowing, the evidence was cut and dried though, it's one of the few times I've known genuine whistleblowing actually work, usually ends very differently, though the rest of the staff and the owners made my life hell for endangering their jobs (apparently) and putting the registration at risk. Suppose I should have just let someone die in agony instead.
