What do I want for my birthday?

Discontentedpony · 15/09/2021 21:07

It's next week and family are asking what I want. The whole year I covet things that are too expensive or I consider too much of an extravagance then when it comes to my birthday I can never remember them.

Can I have some ideas please?

Husband is buying me lovely smelly body butter, so I could get more smellies.

What about some lovely stationery? Where can I get lovely notebooks from? Can I have some stationery inspiration?

Nice plant pots for my houseplants?

I'm miserable, tired and feeling too old (46). What will cheer me up? Can I have some ideas please?

It's mine in a few weeks and I've asked for a Neom mini pod and some de stress oil. I plan to use it in my bedroom, then ask other family members for book vouchers so I can start reading and relaxing in bed instead of mindlessly scrolling the internet 🙈

Paper chase for stationary!

PurpleDaisies · 15/09/2021 21:13

Oliver bonas has lovely plant pots and house things.

I agree with paper chase for notebooks. Waterstones has nice ones too.

Moonshine86 · 15/09/2021 21:16

A nice fountain pen with a bold ink colour. I love my teal one!

FluffyFluffMonster · 15/09/2021 21:18

It's my birthday Friday and I'm going to buy myself some Lego flowers!

Leeds2 · 15/09/2021 21:18

A lovely pen to use to write in your new notebooks. Something like a Mont Blanc.
Gloves/scarf/hat so that you are ready for winter.
Perfume.
Ugg boots or slippers.
A Kitchen Aid if you like cooking.
Coffee machine.
New cook books. I love getting these, although I don't cook!
A bird table.
New wine glasses, and a bottle or two to go with them.

Ashitaka · 15/09/2021 21:19

What about a velvetiser?

LatinforTelly · 15/09/2021 21:22

White company room diffusers. I know not personal but such nice smells and give a bit of luxury every day.

Ren body products.

Aveda hair products.

All luxuries I wouldn't buy myself but love to be given.

Clarins beauty flash balm tightens your face up(!) for a night out.

Nice sports gear. A good book.

GromblesofGrimbledon · 15/09/2021 21:25

House plants.
Hotel Chocolate Velvetiser.
New winter boots or coat.
Books.
Good headphones/earphones.
A hamper of all your favourite toiletries.
Tickets to a show/concert.

YetAnotherWalk · 15/09/2021 21:26

I've asked for a handbag and a bird bath

A Rituals set. Smell absolutely divine, and come in the loveliest boxes it feels like a real indulgence

MackenCheese · 15/09/2021 21:32

Mine is next week too, and I have the same issue (nice problem to have!). Looking for good ideas as well 😊

Rizzoli123 · 15/09/2021 22:43

I want this book for Christmas. Its a notebook but has a funny slogan in. Would love to see people's faces when I use it.

Papier for stationery - it's beautiful

DappledThings · 16/09/2021 13:50

I never understand these threads. Surely if you don't know what you want then you don't want anything. It's OK to now want anything. It's OK to want lots of things but why force yourself to want something if you don't?

I don’t understand people who come on threads to post stuff like this.

The op wanted ideas. She got lots of nice suggestions and now has things she’d like. A totally normal thing to happen. What’s your issue? Did you get out of bed on the wrong side or something?

No, I'm fine thanks! I was genuinely asking the thought process. I get wanting things and asking for them, I just don't get wanting a "thing" for the sake of having a "thing" but not knowing what that thing is. Why do people force themselves to pick a "thing" that they clearly didn't want or they would have know what they wanted. I don't get it

RoseGoldGlasses · 16/09/2021 13:57

@DappledThings op actually gave ideas on what she was thinking of just needed abit inspo.
No harm done.

PurpleDaisies · 16/09/2021 14:02

Why do people force themselves to pick a "thing" that they clearly didn't want or they would have know what they wanted.

Because if it’s your birthday, you often have to tell people what to buy you or you end up with something you really didn’t want. It’s easy to go blank when you’re put on the spot. People can suggest things you never considered before, or didn’t know existed or have just forgotten about. It’s really not that hard to understand.

vampirethriller · 16/09/2021 14:07

It was mine last week, I had some walking boots, some vintage knitting patterns and a garden hand fork.

Standrewsschool · 16/09/2021 18:14

@vampirethriller

Vintage knitting patterns - do you mean like these? How cool.

CraftMaker · 16/09/2021 21:12

It my birthday and I’m loving this thread! I had no idea what I wanted to buy myself but there are some great ideas here.

pinkcattydude · 16/09/2021 21:18
