Carpet Stinks after Washing

I washed my carpet in the lounge with a Rug Doctor machine on Sunday. The water was black! And all was well.
But today it stinks! Like a real damp dog type of smell.
I've had the doors and windows open all day but still stinks. The carpet doesn't feel wet.
Any ideas?!

The smell will go but it can take a few days , spray some febreeze on it tonight before you go to bed and it should be better by the morning.

Could there have been some leftover dirty water or mould in the machine that got pushed into the carpets?

If it’s dry sprinkle loads of bicarbonate of soda on it. Leave it as long as convenient and then hoover it up. It’s absorbs bad smells.

Thanks, will buy some bicarb tomorrow. Thought I had some shake and vac in the back of the cupboard 😳 but must have been used in 1990😂
The carpet felt quite dry the next day so I don't think there was water left anywhere.

There wont be any water left ,whenever I've used a rug doctor I've had the same thing , it will go .

It still stinks! I've had the windows open today and got some bicarb which I will leave down overnight.
