Is 5th September a summer or autumn baby?

Curious as to what everyone would say!

Autumn

My 6 year old was born in 4th Sept and I have always thought of him as an autumn baby .

Autumn. Don't understand autumn stating on the equinox, if the winter solstice is mid winter then the equinox should be mid autumn. Autumn by the school year as well.

Why is it technically summer? I have always thought of September as being autumn.

TBH even my late August baby felt like an Autumn baby because it was cold by the time we had left the newborn bubble.

In any context relating to schools/education then definitely Autumn as a 5th September baby will always be oldest/nearly oldest in the school year group.

Only time you might say summer baby is if you are talking about how much clothing you put on your newborn baby because obviously that decision is affected by whether there is a heatwave on, and you can certainly have heatwaves in September.

Plus it's so hot where I am that it feels crazy calling it autumn!

It's definitely still summer for most of September so it's a late summer birthday. Autumn starts on or around 22nd September.

Astronomical autumn is different from meteorological autumn though.

Whilst the astronomical calendar may be the most technically accurate, not many people would consider 20th Dec to be Autumn!

For me it's Sept, Oct, Nov = Autumn.

I have an early September born and think of him as an Autumn baby.

I'd say autumn for this situation, not least because it's after the start of the autumn term

The term summer born is generally used for children who are among the youngest in their school year, so born in June/July/August. I've never heard a child described as autumn/winter/spring born.

I'd say anything from September 1st is an autumn baby. I know it's not true because they're a summer baby but they'd be on of the older ones in schools whereas summer babies are the youngest.

Autumn

Its autumn one of my dc is same birthday. Not a summer baby. I'm not sure anyone ever made the distinction.

Summer is June July and August, autumn is September October November.

When I was in school I was taught that Autumn began around 21st September, but nowadays it seems to be said that Autumn begins on 1sr September .

I would consider September Autumn anyway .

That's a spring baby if you're in the southern hemisphere! 🙃

'Summer born' refers to those born in June, July and August. Sometimes May as well (summer term).

Of all of these ways of categorising autumn, the only one that surely matters is the school term definition, because the baby is going to boss it as the eldest in the school year, right? 😁😁
