Gone off meat!!!!

Akrotiri1 · 15/09/2021 15:34

Always been a happy meat eater, but a few weeks ago we had some lamb that wasn't cooked as well as I would have liked, with the fat un-rendered.

The next day I felt quite nauseous, which is very unlike me, and couldn't get the taste of the fat out of my mouth.

Had some sweet and sour chicken the other night, and couldn't stomach it, then had pork chops yesterday and ended up in the dogs bowl!!!!

Has this happened to anyone else? I do like vegetarian food but with a family of carnivores, and an extremely busy schedule, the though of having to fit in foods that keep all happy is going to be very extra work that I could really do without.......

Are you pregnant?

QuestionableMouse · 15/09/2021 15:37

Do a Covid test. Meat was the only thing that tastes different to me when I had covid.

Orangejuicemarathoner · 15/09/2021 15:37

I have a friend who became unable to digest meat after a virus infection, but I don't know the details

Happened to me when I was pregnant. Actually vomited on the floor in the meat aisle of the supermarket. Not my finest moment.

idontlikealdi · 15/09/2021 15:38

Pregnant?

Warrickdaviesasplates · 15/09/2021 15:40

@OlivePenderghast

Are you pregnant?
My first thought as well. I haven't been able to stomachs the smell/ taste/ texture of any meat since getting pregnant with dc3.
brushlaptop · 15/09/2021 15:46

Pregnant or covid?

SoloISland · 15/09/2021 15:48

meat? what IS that?

gamerchick · 15/09/2021 15:51

I went off meat when I was pregnant with my last baby.

Recently after a nearly 3 week stomach ache I've found meat just rots in my gut and doesn't digest properly. Very smelly experience. So can kinda feel your feelz a bit OP.

Maybe take a break from it for a bit, it'll come back. There are some tasty none meat dishes out there these days.

gardeninggirl68 · 15/09/2021 15:53

I think it's called vegetarianism

You've caught that

Lindy2 · 15/09/2021 15:56

I was like this with my second pregnancy.

Hoppinggreen · 15/09/2021 16:05

I am not pg but I went off chicken after a very nasty bout of food poisoning a few years ago. I do sometimes eat it in curry but I couldn’t t eat a drumstick or similar.
DD is veggie so we have cut right back on meat for ease of cooking something we can all eat and I find the less I eat the less I want it, the thought of a steak or pork chop is just Yuk!

Akrotiri1 · 15/09/2021 16:21

Ha ha! Definitely not pregnant. And negative pcr 24hrs ago, so don't think those could be reasons.....

is vegetariansim catching then?!

I think it is, DD certainly infected 2 of us but DS is immune

Akrotiri1 · 15/09/2021 16:22

Going to try a McDonalds at the weekend, never turned down a big mac in my life, so a good test!

This has happened to me a few times, first of all the look of chicken skin made me nauseous so I went off meat for about a month. I never returned to eating the same amount as before. The second time red meat made me feel sick so now I can’t eat it all but can eat chicken about once a week. Lately some thoughts about fish have been creeping in and I have gone off that too.

GloriaPunniford · 15/09/2021 16:28

This happened to me last year. I was always first in line for rare steak or a Big Mac too.

I started going off chicken and then other meats followed. I went vegetarian for a bit but then I went off dairy too. I’ve now gone completely vegan.

I don’t know if I had Covid as i never had other symptoms but it’s the only thing I can think of that would cause a rapid change.

holidaynearlyover · 15/09/2021 16:30

This is happening to me, if I think too hard I feel sick at the thought of meat so I've dramatically reduced our intake as a family and have reduced mine further.

SquigglePigs · 15/09/2021 16:30

I do that occasionally (although can usually still manage chicken to be fair). Generally I give myself a few days of eating veggie food or chicken/fish if that's still ok, then try myself with an old favourite and slowly reintroduce meat.

Just listen to your body and give yourself a break for a few days then see how you feel.

NailsNeedDoing · 15/09/2021 16:35

That’s pretty similar to what happened to me before I went veggie a few years ago, I just slowly started going off most types of meat so decided to try out being vegetarian and have never gone back. Its not too difficult to be a vegetarian in a carnivore family, it’s usually easy enough to substitute the meat part of a meal for something else that just has to be heated, or I just eat more of the non meat bits.

LittleFroggie · 15/09/2021 16:36

Have you maybe eaten it too much recently? Meat gives me the sweats if I eat it too much.

Hoppinggreen · 15/09/2021 16:55

I just don’t think we are really designed to eat so much meat.
I eat it probably 3 or 4 times a week and feel so much better, I don’t eat Quorn or meat substitutes either

GloriaPunniford · 15/09/2021 16:59

I don’t eat the meat substitutes either because they are too much like meat. It’s a nightmare in restaurants that only offer a Beyond Burger.

InnPain · 15/09/2021 17:03

It happens, just give it time and you’ll be able to stomach it again. Until the eat what’s easy on your insides!

Why would you go back to eating meat? Not consuming meet is far more beneficial for the environment.
