In awe of Ashley Cain

Just that. I’m in utter awe at Ashley Cain and his partner Saffiya. They are incredible people.

They lost their beautiful little girl to leukaemia a few months ago, they started a charity and he just completed a bike ride across the length of the country to raise money and awareness for children’s cancer. All of that is amazing, but it’s the way the speak about their grief, their daughter, their journey so far and all they look to accomplish in her name. Every time I hear them, it floors me. Never met them, in fact had never heard of them before this but they’ve really touched me, especially on my own grief journey with my father.

Who else was so deeply touched by their story, their journey, their strength and the beauty of their words? 🧡

I feel really sorry for Safiyya, she seems to spend a lot of time alone and doing Instagram live Q&As for strangers late at night. I hope she's being supported properly, I know she fell out with her mum when Azaylia was close to the end and Ashley is off doing this bike ride. I wish I could give her a big hug.

They're dealing with their overwhelming grief as best they can

I think they’re both incredible and are such incredible parents!

Even though I’ve never met them they gave me such strength in my dads final days. I’ve learned a lot from them!

I’ve been following their story for ages and it’s been absolutely heartbreaking. I’m so pleased that they’ve managed to get Azaylia’s charity up and running and Ashley has completed his bike ride. I was also in awe of the updates - it looked incredibly tough, both physically and mentally. It’s really inspired me to do something next year and try and raise some money for childhood cancer, which is such an underrepresented cause.
I too hope Safiyya is ok. It’s hard to know solely from social media posts but she looks like she has so much still to process, and the excitement of this new challenge is just covering the cracks. I hope she can take some time for herself to rest and grieve.
