I've just found a rather large spider in my conservatory, is anyone able to identify it and tell me if I need to move?Grin

The bulbous abdomen makes me think false widow. They do bite so if it’s in the way I would relocate it to outside.

No idea, but awww, it's so cute!

littledrummergirl · 15/09/2021 12:41

Cute!!! Shock

We've had false widows before, they were smaller and had really distinctive marks so I don't think that's what they are.
It's web doesn't appear as messy either.

They will have to stay there until someone else comes home as I'm not going near...

That's a bigass false widow

Spyro1234 · 15/09/2021 12:49

I think that's the large female false widow, much bigger and darker than the males. They bite and I kill this species on sight! We have looooaaads in our garden

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 15/09/2021 12:51

You need to burn your house down. Its the only way.

littledrummergirl · 15/09/2021 12:52

Oh no... I really like my home. I'll start packing.

This. 100%.
purplesequins · 15/09/2021 12:54

false widow.
pregnant females can get rather large.
she's a beauty.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 15/09/2021 12:57

It's called Getthefuckawayquick.

Autumngoldleaf · 15/09/2021 13:41

3 types of false widow, they are not pleasant and give a nasty bite. People thought it was a mild bite.. It's not

Autumngoldleaf · 15/09/2021 13:42

They are non indingeneos, they multiple and colonise really quickly, are far more efficient then our native spider's.

DiaryofWimpyMumm · 15/09/2021 13:44

Oh no if she's pregnant you're going to have lots of mini widows soon too.

Time to pack

whatswithtodaytoday · 15/09/2021 13:48

We have one exactly like that in our conservatory. I got close enough to look at the markings and it's definitely a false widow. There are a few different types so it might not look exactly like ones you've seen before.

I'm not a fan, but it's living in the corner of the ceiling so not disturbing me.

crosshatching · 15/09/2021 14:03

You need a glass, a coaster and a quick mental process of who is your least favourite neighbour and most efficient route to their garden.

Load3 · 15/09/2021 14:20

Has it got you OP?

romdowa · 15/09/2021 14:33

It's called a nope... I get dp to squash these , it's the only way to deal with them 🤣🤣

Cerebelle · 15/09/2021 14:37

I generally accept spiders and will put massive ones outside but that's a false widow and you should kill it.

Suzi888 · 15/09/2021 14:39

She/ He needs to be relocated to a field - not in Wales though thanks. Looks like it’s eaten a mouse!

Milkbottlelegs · 15/09/2021 14:40

We had one in our conservatory. Tried to get it with the hoover and it was so strong it hung on. After that she lived there quite happily not bothering us for the next 6 months or so. I’d have been more worried if I couldn’t see her one day.

Gingernaut · 15/09/2021 14:42

No idea.

I've never seen such a shiny spider, though.

All the ones I see in my house have fur.

littledrummergirl · 15/09/2021 15:16

Sorry, was packing...Smile

SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit · 15/09/2021 15:32

I've never seen anything like that before and I don't want to see it again.

slavetothekittens · 15/09/2021 16:14

Please don't hurt her, pop her outside of you don't want her in the house. Spiders are very useful and unfortunately much maligned.

Raggedyanabell · 15/09/2021 17:11

Jesus!!
WTF did I click on this thread knowing full well that there would be spider pic 😭 >shudder
