Builder damaged skirting board

We had some work done on the kitchen ceiling following a water leak and the builder put up scaffolding to get to the ceiling. He's left now but I've just noticed that there's a hole in the skirting board. This is my first home and the first time I've ever had any workmen in the house so what's normal in this situation? Should he fix it for free? I did take precautions myself like I moved everything out of the kitchen and covered up things that couldn't be moved and that I was worried about like the glass hob. I didn't think the cupboard skirting board would be at risk though!

Depends on what the contract says, if no contract then he may just deny it. If it's possible for you to fix it, I'd do that. Best to bring up issues before he had left.
