Normally pay by direct debit 80 quid my account is in credit based on actual meter reading (100 quid ish). THey want to up the direct debit to 167, I tried suggesting a different amount online but minimum they'd accept is 134.

Electricity use doesn't really go up that much in winter. Heat/ hot water / aga are oil. Do I just need to change suppliers it's like they all like to have a f*ck around with direct debits at the end of the year. I changed to EDF from Eon who had 300 quid of mine but were still insisting on whacking great increases.

How much lecky do you use each year?

dementedpixie · 15/09/2021 11:54

Surely it's up to you what payment you make as long as you are already in credit?
I can change my payment up and down myself with Octopus

Incidentally my old dad has a tariff that bills and debits him for what he actually uses quarterly in arrears.

I’m refuse to do DD they tell me
Often I’d only be worse off by £20 a year on their DD tariff anyway. I pay the bill when due. No guessing or paying fast sums in advance. Plus you have few weeks from bill to decide when you will pay it so wriggle room if you have too. I know helps other budget over the year but yet to met anyone who happy and doesn’t end up hundreds in credit.

Just under 4000, I punched it in to uswitch they recommended EDF at 83 quid a month!

You can apply to reduce but minimum was for 134 when I tried to put in 90 to cover price increases. Will probably just change supplier when deal ends this month.

My annual electricity use is about 5921kWh
We use about £80 electricity per month as I am asked for monthly readings and when you input them it gives you updated usage details within minutes.

Gas is around £25 per month just now but will go up as it gets colder.

I had this earlier in the year as was switched to EDF when my supplier went bust.

Previous supplier hadn't sent a bill since December which was paid. They went busy in Jan. EDF took over with new meter readings. They didn't set up my account until May and wouldn't issue a bill until following month. They were then insistent my account was £1100 in debit which they wanted in 14 days. Luckily we can afford that. So even though I argued it was pricey, it was essentially for 6 months dual fuel.

I then had an amendment email a week later saying they had misjudged bill and I am now £500 in credit. Which they want to keep on my account so I don't pay bills for next couple of months. Bloody joke!

SpiderinaWingMirror · 15/09/2021 12:43

I am with ovo. Can adjust DD to suit. I ignore their suggestions but it also has a facility to pay extra by debit card. So if I'm in debit when I check, I'll just make a small payment.

PomBearWithoutHerOFRS · 15/09/2021 14:37

Hi with Ovo or Utilita (both have pros and cons) and get a payg meter. You just use the app and too up online, can see exactly how much you use and have left. They don't get your money in advance then.

MrsPear · 15/09/2021 14:40

That’s why I refuse to pay monthly dd. I have a smart meter and put aside accordingly each month and then pay when the quarterly bill comes in. Before smart meter I just refused to pay estimate and only pay actual.
