If my car insurance starts in midnight on the 1st of October

When does the cover starts. I think it's 2nd October, but DH who arranged it, says it's the 1st. He's someone who can't be wrong (another story) so reasoning with him or asking him to explain why 12 midnight doesn't belong to the previous day, is a waste of time.

Or maybe I'm wrong?

It sounds like it would start at 00.00 on 1/10 so you would be covered for the whole of the 1st.

namechange30455 · 15/09/2021 10:14

It starts at the start of 1st October. How could 12 midnight on 1st October be on the 2nd Hmm

It will most likely say it ends at 23:59 on 30th September 2022 to make this clear. You're wrong, sorry.

SedentaryCat · 15/09/2021 10:14

It'll be the 1 October. 23.59 is 30 September, 00.00 is 1 October.

PeonyTime · 15/09/2021 10:16

Check the policy. They normally say 23.59 and 00.01 to solve this issue.
I reckon you are covered in 1st October.

idontlikealdi · 15/09/2021 10:16

I think your Dh is right.

Livia22 · 15/09/2021 10:18

Why would midnight on the 1st October be the 2nd October?! Your DH is right.

TheGrumpyGoat · 15/09/2021 10:19

Your partner is right. You will be covered on the 1st October.

negomi90 · 15/09/2021 10:21

Midnight (0.00) is the start of the day. 23.59 is the end of the day.
The cover covers the 1st of October.

CraftyGin · 15/09/2021 10:21

When Big Ben chimes at midnight for New Year, it is New Year's Day.

If you are worried about cover, you can always www.askmid.com

LindaEllen · 15/09/2021 10:25

Midnight is at the start of the day, not the end of the day like so many people think. That's why on the 24 hour clock midnight is 00.00.

So, in this situation, your DP is right.

bloodywhitecat · 15/09/2021 10:31

DH is right, when I worked in healthcare and had to write note 00:00 was the start of the new day not the end of the old one (that ends on 23:59)

girlmom21 · 15/09/2021 10:42

Yeah it'll be 1st October. Unless you're trying to get out of being designated driver for some reason in which case tell him we all said 2nd Grin

didyouseeit · 15/09/2021 10:54

Cheers! Don't mind being wrong, just a bit confused. I did google it and I'm not the only one 😂

Just checked DS's car insurance renewal which is due later this month. His says starts 27/09 @ 12.01 hours and ends 27/09 @ noon! Obviously done to avoid the sort of confusion you are experiencing OP! But I'm pretty sure I've seen others which start at 0.01 hrs so it's clear it starts as soon as we enter the date listed. Obviously not all insurance companies do this (ie yours!)
