Need a hand hold

Hand hold please lovely vipers. My darling dog was hit by a car this morning. He's at the vets, about to go under GA for X-rays and stitching the wounds. He's been stabilised this morning as the shock was making him quite unwell. Poor boy looks awful, the sound the car made as it hit him will not stop replaying in my head.

Please send him thoughts, prayers and healing vibes.

Sending positive thoughts to your poor lad and to you too. I hope the surgery has gone well.

spiderlight · 14/09/2021 16:52

Oh no!! Holding your hand tight and sending tons of good thoughts to your gorgeous boy. I hope you get good news from the vets soon.

ShadowsInTheDarkness · 14/09/2021 16:55

We are stuck in limbo as bloody vet hospital won't admit him without pre authorisation from the insurance company and our local vets can't do more than stitch him up. So he's in pain and still under GA while we try and get hold of insurance people.

Handhold here. What's his name? He's adorable!
Chester although he's mostly called Chess or Chessy. Full name is reserved for sock stealing, counter surfing and attempts to pinch the DCs breakfasts. He's like my third child, I am in absolute bits. Insurance people have now spoken to vet hospital and we are go so DH is driving an unconscious dog across the county to the nearest vet hospital. The accident was around 10.30am and the poor boy is only just getting admitted. Im trying to stay upbeat and positive for the DCs. Our other dog is missing him and keeps looking for him.

Hope Chester will be ok, he’s obviously a strong dog for him holding on whilst it’s all being sorted out so I hope he will soon be on the mend.

Understandably this is a hugely stressful and distressing time for you and your family.

spiderlight · 15/09/2021 12:33

How is he today?

ShadowsInTheDarkness · 15/09/2021 13:29

@spiderlight

How is he today?
He went into surgery this morning and we are still waiting to hear. They weren't sure if it would be the first of 2 ops or whether they would be able to do everything in one go - I think they will monitor him during and assess whether it would be too much on an already stressed body to repair the injuries and fix the leg all at once. Our other dog is pining today, she's not eating and has slept curled up in a ball all morning. I've given her lots of cuddles. Youngest DC struggled going into school this morning, but I let the teachers know and they're going to keep an eye on him. DH has gone to work, he needed to keep busy. Hoping for news from vets soon.

Bless his heart. I really hope it all goes smoothly and they can do everything in one go, and that he's soon home with you all.

@LowbrowVictoriana

How is Chester, *@ShadowsInTheDarkness*?

I do hope he's OK and recovering.

Hi, thanks for asking. So after the first surgery yesterday they discovered that both of his back legs were in fact broken. He went back in for a more complex second surgery which went smoothly and he was in recovery at 8pm last night. The update this morning is that he's taken all his meds well, and eaten some breakfast. He's got external fixators on both back legs and a drain in which will be changed later. The surgeon wants to keep him under observation for a few days but has sent us some photos via PetsApp which is a brilliant invention. So he's out of the woods now, and it's now down to him and us once he comes home to get him through the months of recovery. He will be on crate rest for 2-3 months and will then probably need some physical therapy to rebuild muscle in his legs but the surgeon has said he's a very lucky dog and being young and healthy he sees no reason why he won't make a full recovery.

Pic of our lovely boy with his cone of shame that the vets sent us via the app.

Phew! Lots of things going on and a few difficult months to get through it sounds like, but glad to hear he'll recover.

What a beautiful doggy face!

Awwww gorgeous wee boy.

Wishing him a full recovery, sounds like it will take a bit of time but I'm sure he'll be grand Flowers
