How can I retrieve deleted WhatsApp messages from a blocked contact

My sons dad has been abusing me via WhatsApp for quite some time..the messages have recently become worse.
I decided blocking him was the best option but now all the entire message history has been deleted also.
Is there a way to gwt this back?
I am not very tech savy.
Contacted WhatsApp and they were no help.
I am mad because I wanted a record of the abuse.
I do have some messages I resent to my partner and some on other messaging apps so all is not lost I suppose.

Blocking a contact doesn't delete the history,so can you see the contacts name? Go to the green message icon in the bottom right of the screen look for the block contact click their name and if the chat hasn't been deleted it will be there, if it's not there I'm guessing it's gone

In archives. It backed up everyday day at 2am unless you set it for a longer time delay.
Click on archives and it should be there.
