Ditched sugar - feeling anxious and absolutely knackered

3/4 days ago. Have cut out fruit juice, biscuits and chocolate. I don't think I'm a HUGE consumer of sugar, maybe little and often, but last months PMT saw me consume ridiculous amounts.

I want to go low sugar for health reasons, to try and increase energy levels and to help improve PMT / peri symptoms. I haven't had a withdrawal headache (maybe cos I'm still eating carbs?), but so far am feeling anxious and more tired than usual.

Anyone else gone through this stage and out the other side? Please tell me it gets better. Am taking aaaall the vitamins, and am trying to eat lots of good protein. I don't drink alcohol.

Yep give it a few more days!

Saw someone selling vanilla smelling sticks for sugar cravings. No idea of it works but would be nice if sniffing the vanilla essence bottle helps

A chromium supplement might help.

Thanks gang. Appreciate the replies. I've heard of chromium before, maybe I'll give that a shot.

It does get better.

You might also need magnesium if your carb intake is much lower.

GreyCarpet · 02/10/2021 15:42

Oh missed your update!! Grin

Have you tried again?

The long term benefits of cutting out sugar far outweigh the short term costs!

SisterAgatha · 02/10/2021 15:42

Took me about 10 days before I stopped being murderous but after that I was fine. Keep going!

Dreamstate · 02/10/2021 15:43

It'll pass, just drink more water it helps reduce any headaches as it removes toxins etc.

HeresWhatYouReturned · 03/10/2021 08:59

I definitely want to give it another go at some point. Feel like I just need to wait for a steady period in my life so I can concentrate on it (got a poorly elderly parent currently). Meanwhile I'm gonna try get more and more protein in my diet as think that's meant to balance blood sugar levels innit. Also, what do all you non-sugar heros do for treats!?

I found high fat got me through. I did keto, only for 3 months but it was enough and broke the habit. Coffee with cream doesn’t need sugar etc
