Which food trends are you tired of?

Sriracha on everything. Enough already.

I don't understand this trend for putting biscuits on cakes, in brownies and in chocolate. I could understand it a bit more if it's incorporated into the brownie but often it's just stuck on top.

Burgers that require you to dislocate your jaw in the manner of a python, in order to eat them. I don't have a delicate appetite. I like a good sized burger but some are so ridiculously huge and have so many toppings that you practically need a forklift to get it to your mouth.

What food trends don't you understand?

I think the default veggie option being vegan is overall better than my experience in a pub last week having to order the goats cheese salad without the goats cheese! What a sad lunch that was.

Jerseygirl12 · 12/09/2021 22:30

Foam stuff in posh restaurants.
Tiny sharing starters.

justfuckoffthelottayer · 12/09/2021 22:32

Palm oil in absolutely everything "the blood of orangutans"

Darkchocolateandcoffee · 12/09/2021 22:39

Beetroot

Crumbs eg yesterday my pudding came with brown (chocolate?) crumbs dotted around the ice cream. Ridiculous.

Pea shoots - they taste disgusting.

Food on slate/wooden boards

Bubble tea - absolutely rank

To the PP who said 'jus', that has not been a 'trend' for a good 20 years. Have you actually eaten out in that time period?

Palavah · 12/09/2021 22:54

@DismantledKing

Brioche buns for everything
Yes, this!
gofg · 12/09/2021 22:55

Cupcakes where there is more icing than cake, just too much. I end up scraping it off and wasting it. lets be honest it's just to make the cake look good, but wasteful as no-one wants that much icing surely.

I do - I love the icing on cup cakes.

Another vote for salted caramel - what was wrong with ordinary caramel?

As for 'jus' I've seen it on both menus and cooking shows in recent times.

Since when did beetroot become a trend?

Palavah · 12/09/2021 22:57

@LibertyLue

Prosecco is rank, Cava or Cremant is so much nicer but for some reason Prosecco is always produced at bars/parties. Also these drinks aren’t meant to be drunk all night, they were originally designed to be had as one or two glasses at the start of the event. Nowadays Prosecco seems to be a thing on nights out to have it constantly ordered. It’s horrible stuff.
Emphatically agree
Yaya26 · 12/09/2021 23:11

Sweet potato and butternut squash soups EVERYWHERE.

MackenCheese · 12/09/2021 23:18

Salted caramel on everything, yuk!

supadupapupascupa · 12/09/2021 23:26

Honey roasted. It pissed me off being in ham all the time. This weekend it has made its way onto my hot smoked salmon and it was rank

MumofSpud · 12/09/2021 23:31

@GoodnightGrandma My lips tingle / itch when I eat goat's cheese but I am too greedy to stopBlush

CurlyhairedAssassin · 12/09/2021 23:40

Definitely the foam stuff. My dog used to cough that up with bits of grass in.

SpecialchildSupermum · 12/09/2021 23:46

I like avacodo but it’s so trendy I’m sick of it!!!! It ain’t that great!

36degrees · 13/09/2021 00:01

Anything gluten free also having to be meat-free and/or dairy-free. It was brilliant when M&S brought out its Meatza and then tragic when they stopped selling it almost immediately. Low-carbing is hard enough without having to also cook everything from scratch every day for ever.

mustlovegin · 13/09/2021 00:28

Yes and it is disgusting as you can't wash wooden boards on a hot wash

Hadn't thought of this Shock

HangingOver · 13/09/2021 00:29

I love the vegan brioche buns from Sainsbury's and a giant vegan burger when I'm out (I can cook lentils at home) and huge slices of cake and giant portions and those giant chips that you only get four of and all manner of culinary nonsense on this thread. I'll see myself out Grin

any coconut based vegan cheese tastes like sick though and I'll not be convinced otherwise

HangingOver · 13/09/2021 00:30

no-one wants that much icing surely

Erm....sorry Grin

Labracadabradoodle · 13/09/2021 00:45

@Sewaccidentprone

I had a dish in a cafe pre lockdown which listed massaged kale as one of the ingredients.

We all thought this was wtf???

I have kale in my fridge. Should I be massaging it?
NotMyCat · 13/09/2021 03:18

@HangingOver

no-one wants that much icing surely

Erm....sorry Grin

SAME Grin I love the cake shop near me as she does great brownies etc for £2 but even half is a decent size chunk (see pic) For the weirdos people who don't like much icing she makes school cake which is sponge with icing and sprinkles

ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 13/09/2021 07:22

Burnt stuff like leeks and carrots. Every Gastropub round here has those on the menu.

Usual2usual · 13/09/2021 07:39

Desserts with Reeces Bastard Pieces in them because it means we can't use the restaurant all all given DS's peanut allergy and the refusal of many (not all) restaurants to take actual proper steps to prevent cross contamination.

Palavah · 13/09/2021 07:42

Oreo in puddings. They're so basic.

Namechangerealquick · 13/09/2021 07:50

Yes agree Prosecco is absolutely disgusting! I'm sure Bear Grylls would rather drink his own piss than drink that. In fact, I would too.

daisyjgrey · 13/09/2021 07:53

@GoodnightGrandma

Cold brew 😡 A brew is tea, not coffee.

What? You brew coffee. It's cold. Hence the name...

middleager · 13/09/2021 08:00

@BlancheB

Fake over processed vegan junk food
This.

I'm a vegetarian and I sometimes struggle to get a veggie burger these days - it's all substitute meat patties.
I don't like the taste of meat. I don't want to simulate meat.
