Why can't I pay for hotel?

I'm going to Manchester in November for the weekend.
We have booked through booking.com and got a good deal of £246 for two nights.
It's no pre payment pay on arrival.
The thing is I want to pay now so it's done.
I rang hotel and they said no.
Apparently they can't take a payment till we arrive at hotel.

Wouldn't you think they would be happy to get the payment so they know we are deffo arriving.
Are hotels this way?
I just want to book a hotel room and pay now.

Have you contacted the hotel to see if booking through them is cheaper then cancel booking.com.
I booked through B.C for last weekend for 3 nights for DH and I. Speaking to a couple at the hotel
who booked direct got it £45 cheaper.

I always go directly to the hotel. It's normally the same price or cheaper and you are likely to get a better room or upgrade. All the booking sites charge a % for thier fees and so booking directly the hotel get the whole amount, and after the last 18months I think they deserve it.

I checked and it's £8 cheaper to book direct.
I might just cancel and re book
Still not got the option to pay now tho which is a bit silly
