If my dog is afraid, then I’m afraid! (Lighthearted)

DDog has the run of a field off of our driveway. Been this way for years - never a problem. DDog is a golden retriever.

Tonight he was in and out of the house like a yo-yo and standing at the wall barking into the field. I got the torch to have a look (sometimes cattle or sheep break into the field), I couldn’t see anything but it’s a big field. DDogjust stood next to me and whimpered! Well that freaked me out, I’ve seen him chase foxes so he’s not scared of them. I closed the gate into the field and let him into the garden to do his business. He’s in now and DH can let him out again if he needs to go.

Same here OP! DDog is so chilled out and seldom barks, so when she’s on edge, I’m on edge, and all doors get locked. Especially in the dark!

If I go a run in the dark I always take mine. If he doesn't seem keen to go a certain way, we don't go, but then he is terrified of balloons so maybe I shouldn't take his reaction as seriously.

I'm with you, I have 3 dogs, all terriers and fearless. If something spooks them, I'm back inside under the covers (with them).
