Pocket money

Hi all,
I'm curious about how much pocket money teens get these days?
My daughter has just turned 16 and has never really had pocket money. If she wants something, she's asked and we've bought it for her.
Over the summer she worked with my other half and has enjoyed having her own money.
She's about to start college and we're encouraging her to get a part time job to fit around her college hours, but in the meantime I'm thinking about giving her a weekly/monthly allowance.
How much do you guys give as an allowance or what can you suggest as a reasonable amount.
Many thanks!!

Depends on what you expect her to do withbher money (ie just entertainment, or her clothes/toiletries too)
Also what you can afford as a family
And taking into account any transport she needs to take when out with friends

It would really be for socialising and odd and ends that they always seem to want! We'll be buying her a bus pass and covering her meal costs at college. Clothes and toiletries we are still going to cover (she's not really into fashion so not bothered about a new wardrobe every other week!).

How about £50 a month?

DS had his child benefit from his 16th birthday, on top of his previous £10 a week allowance.

We still paid for school uniform and supplies, phone contract and Explorers. Everything else (including guitar lessons) was down to him. There's been (amongst other things) much angst over the price vs quality of the normally purchased Next boxer shorts compared to Primark ones, and an unbelievably tense situation relating to thread counts of bedding as he's been so keen to budget well.

It was actually one of my more successful parenting decisions and as someone with hopeless control over money as a young adult, I'm really pleased with how he's managed it.
