Baby/toddler shoe aversion

DD absolutely WILL NOT wear socks or shoes. She's walking now and throws an absolute shit fit if we try to put anything on her feet. This has been fine over summer/in the back garden (though we would have worried with DC1 Grin), but now the weather is starting to turn and she wants to be up and about while we're out, what the hell do we do?!?

Obviously the answer is that we're the parents, no shoes=no walking, which is fine. But, any tips on encouraging her to wear them?

This sounds tricky OP! Mostly answering to bump this for you.
Will she put them on you, or a teddy? Maybe you can slowly build up to it by making it a game?

Does she like wellies? This was the answer with my son - wouldn’t keep shoes on, wouldn’t take wellies off!

Wellies or crocs (worn with socks) with her favourite character on maybe?

I've got pictures of my two running around in the brown leaves on Halloween last year with bare feet so maybe she will be ok without shoes for a bit longer Grin

@ParadiseLaundry
My niece would only wear crossbow wellies too. Utterly refused any type of other footwear including socks. Luckily we are a laidback family and my sister just went along with it.
I will always remember a family wedding and my niece had the most beautiful dress on and a pair of wellies.

Rubyupbeat · 11/09/2021 18:10

Crocs or wellies, not sure about the crossbow, lol

Fuckadoodledoo2 · 11/09/2021 19:38

Ha, was just about to Google crossbow wellies Grin

We have crocs and wellies from DC1 so will give those a try!

I agree with trying wellies. DS hates socks and doesn't love trainers but is happy with wellies. Maybe even try slightly big ones so it's less restricted.

Id stick with barefoot you've got ages yet!

My friend's daughter is like this. She's nearly 3. And when she does put shoes on, it's usually 'odd' shoes - ie, shoe in one foot, flip flop on the other.Or sandals in the snow, high top sneakers on the hottest day of summer. Friend just lets her get on with it, but always carries appropriate footwear in her bag when they go out in case the child changes her mind/gets hypothermia. Probably she'll grow out of it eventually.

Seamless socks and wellies.

My little boy hated shoes at first and would curl his feet up so you couldn't get them on. Then he discovered wellies and loved them, wouldn't take them off. He's 2 and 3 months now, loves wearing any shoes (especially mine). I really wouldn't worry. She's likely to grow out of it.

Moccasins were the only thing my shoe hater would tolerate.
