What do we need to get from a last minute IKEA trip for student DD?

We're off to IKEA together by public transport, more for the experience and the meatballs than a serious shop really. She's in a self-catering shared flat with an en-suite

List so far:
Socktopus
2 plates, 2 bowls (we have spare mugs, glasses and cutlery)
Frying pan
Bath mat
Some sort of hanging bathroom storage
Laundry bag
Duvet cover without Ballerina Barbie on it.
Sieve
Kitchen knife

We've got spare Tupperware, towels, duvet and pillows.
What else does she need?

An air dryer for her clothes
Wooden spoon/spatula/tongs etc. for cooking?
Cheap rug for her bedroom

PullMeInToTheScreen · 11/09/2021 14:50

Extra teaspoons

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 11/09/2021 14:51

Vegetable peeler (their 365+ one is really good), colander.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 11/09/2021 14:54

Tray
Collapsible storage boxes
The silicon covers that go over tins etc when you only use half
A decent kitchen knife
A few blue bags

A waste bin for bedroom & bathroom. We were quite surprised DD room didn't include one.

Ohflipflopextra · 11/09/2021 14:55

Door stop

TheNatureOfTheCatastrophe · 11/09/2021 14:56

Hmm. I've got ten teaspoons and I thought if I spared her three that would be enough - but maybe not.

I'm following this thread in the kitchen and have just got the spare veg peeler out to put in the To Be Packed box.

Probably not ideal for public transport, but pretty much everybody I knew ended up buying a bedside lamp.

atleastitswarm · 11/09/2021 14:58

Definitely a bin! The rooms don’t usually come with them.

TheNatureOfTheCatastrophe · 11/09/2021 14:58

I spotted waste bin on another list and it took me by surprise because I hadn't realised. I can't decide whether to take up her own one from her room or buy a spare. I guess she won't want to be bringing it home at Christmas so she'll need a duplicate.

(Although maybe bin will be from local Argos not IKEA two tubes and a bus away)

Remember that the big superstore supermarkets will have a lot of this stuff too when she gets there.

TheQueenOfDreams · 11/09/2021 15:03

Bin
Laundry basket
Lamp
Pot for pens etc
A picture frame or two

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 11/09/2021 15:07

The Skalad paring knives — they have a blade cover so good for if she wants to take one to her room (and they're just really nice sharp little knives too).

And a pair of tongs — very useful and often overlooked!

TheNatureOfTheCatastrophe · 11/09/2021 15:09

True that big supermarkets at the other end will have this stuff probably just as cheap, but they're a good half an hour away from her halls and she'll be driving up with her dad who won't enjoy the ritual, rather than me, who will.
