Gift idea for 18 year old that you don't really know.

I've started a new job and have had some training from my 18 year old colleague. She's been really helpful and has taken lots of time out to train me and even typed up notes for me.

She'll be leaving in a few weeks and going to uni but still be living at home. I wanted to get her a nice gift but something a bit more thoughtful than a box of chocs etc.

The problem is that she is very quiet and just does my training and doesn't really talk about anything else so I have no idea what she's into. I've tried asking what she'll be doing on the weekend but I can't get anything info from her!

Do you have any suggestions for gift ideas?!

Stationery or a Paperchase gift card.

Posh thermal cup (not starbucks)
Fancy pen and/or notebook
Plant/flowers or flower subscription
Posh chocolates/biscuits

Cute houseplant for her room, such as Schlumbergera (Christmas cactus) or aloe

When my DD turned 18, the only thing she specifically asked for was some nice flowering plants. I got her a couple of orchids, the blooms lasted 6 months and they've flowered again a few times since.

If your budget runs to it, a Jo Malone candle (lime and basil is popular) as they wrap them beautifully and looks special.

My teen (Y11) is absolutely nuts about plants! Every surface upstairs in our house has her plants on- lockdown meant she could propagate plants to her heart's content, and it's got to the stage where she has to give them away constantly. Her orchids always die though.

Indoor plants have had a huge resurgence over the past couple of years.

haba - if her orchids are dying, chances are she's not neglecting them enough!Grin

I think you may be right! But I think the fact that the only window sill she can put them on (so they get enough light) is south facing, and they get burned up.
