HP or ASUS for a laptop?

I need to buy a laptop for work, and am torn between a HP and an ASUS. My budget is not huge, £600, and it has been suggested that I need 16GB Ram, but 8 would probably suffice. These are the ones I am looking at

ASUS VivoBook S 15 - S513EA Full HD 15.6" Metal Laptop (Intel Quad Core i5-1135G7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, Backlit Keyboard, Windows 10) Includes WiFi 6 www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08CKXSM6J/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_8VDY1MN7C4AAESAX5RTV?tag=mumsnetforu03-21
Would really appreciate advice and opinions from the hive mind!

Hp site is down for maintenance so all I'll comment is that I wasted money on my HP...The base of the laptop was too heavy for the screen and hinge, the screen broke with very light use and in early days. I didn't repair as I could see it happening again.

So...take a good look at the pictures and if you can, go and see it IRL in a shop. I wouldn't rule out a future hp, but I'd check that it's more robust than my last.

I bought a brilliant HP for DS which he uses for gaming etc for that price. It is very powerful. It was from John Lewis.

I'd always go Asus but got my mum a very nice HP which was similar spec except the screen and was half the price of my Asus... Which I appreciate is no help at all.

A wise friend said for speed (the thing I want most after decent colour balance) to prioritise, in order, SSD then RAM then processor. I can't see the HP one but the Asus you've chosen looks pretty good!

Thank you all!

@stripedbananas those John Lewis prices are high! The HP one I linked to has a 15' screen with similar spec, and the ASUS also has a 15' screen, and the 16GB Ram.

I'm beginning to think that the ASUS is a very good deal and the one to go for!

You need to look at the latest laptops. The cheaper ones are likely to be more out of date technology wise.

Hi in case you're wondering I had the posts removed because they were linking to something else as well.
