Downs Screening

I'm just wondering if anyone here has been given the high risk of downs and opted to go straight for the CVS, instead of having the NIPT done 1st? Also has anyone had the false positive from the NIPT?

I have not heard of the NIPT, (DS is 13 so maybe things have changed) it was not offered to me.
I had the CVS done, and had results in two weeks, no problems and not as bad as a smear imho.

Thanks, I had the DS screening and it came back high risk, probably cause of my age. Was told I could have a blood test which is NIPT but we wanted a definite answer. Doesn't everyone get the 13 weeks blood test, I had it with my 1st child as well.

Not everyone has a 13 week blood test. I was 40 having DS ...........I decided not to have the blood test as I already knew I was at a higher risk due to my age. I had decided that I wouldn't terminate for downs so I didn't see the point of screening.

You can do either - most people usually elect to go on to CVS and then amnio as the NIPT isn't 100% accurate and won't give you a yes or no answer
