How long is one week?

Please settle a small disagreement in my household....

We need to submit meter readings 1 week/7 daysapart to our gas and electric company as 1 of us messed up a meter reading when we changed suppliers. We took the first reading last Friday.

Should the second one be today or tomorrow?

If you did today, it would be the same week.

If for example you took the reading at midday last Friday, then one week to me would be 11.59am this Friday. Though that might be a bit pedantic!

But it has been stated here this evening that of you go on holiday for a week on a Saturday that you fly back on the Friday? Tbh we can't even remember what its like to go on holiday....

No if I go on holiday on a Saturday for a week I would travel back on the following Saturday.

You go on holiday for a week for seven nights usually so it'd be Saturday to Saturday

Friday and Friday is a week apart.

Also, if you arrive at your holiday cottage on a Saturday , you leave on the following Saturday if you are staying a week.

A week is 7 days. If you take the reading at 4pm on Friday, it is
1 day to 4pm Sat
2 days to 4pm Sun
etc 7 days to 4pm Friday

Well seeing as a week is 7 days then it would be 7 days after last Friday which would be tomorrow. Today would be 6 days. Worrying that one of you can't figure that out?

You are counting Friday as 1 day out of the 7.

What you need to do is count forward 24 hours and that is 1 day. So…for example…

Friday 11am - Saturday 11am day 1
Saturday - Sunday day 2
Sunday - Monday day 3
Monday - Tuesday day 4
Tuesday - Wednesday day 5
Wednesday - Thursday day 6
Thursday - Friday 11am day 7

If you count Friday as one of the days then you are missing a full 24hrs reading

Think of it like this:

One day/24 hours is say, 10 am on day 1, to 10 am on day 2.

A week is from one day, to the Dane day the following week. If you have weekly swimming lessons, they are in the same day the folllowing week c

Thank you everyone. I have had a couple of glasses of wine and DH hasn't, which usually means I end up feeling like an imbecile. But on this occasion I have been vindicated! In his defence he is extremely tired...
