Is there a sparkling water shortage everywhere or just by me?

Been to 6 supermarkets this week. Not a single bottle of sparkling water anywhere. Even the stuff that £4/litre.

It’s the one pregnancy craving that’s stuck with me and I neeeeeed it

Isn't carbonated water bad for your teeth ?

Get a soda stream. We did and love it. Much better than buying plastic bottles!

We love our soda stream. Wouldn’t be without it, and a huge saving on plastic waste.
We add Vimto to it, or other squash/cordial. Rarely buy their own syrups.
I make my own syrup for ginger ale using the recipe here.

We had issues last month on holiday and now it is a bit of a hit and miss in the stores. I walk past the aisle most times I shop.

At home we have a carbonator, not Soda Stream but works the same way, as we wanted to cut down on plastic. I think we are at break even money wise but for us the plastic impact was the main reason for it.

We only drink sparkling as we mix it with juice or if we drink it pure it is nicer at room temperature than still or tab water which taste absolutely bland unless ice cold.

Love my soda stream. DH bought me one in pregnancy and we’ve been using it ever since. Makes me feel better about plastic waste and helps me to not overdo the Diet Coke addiction the one I managed to kick in pregnancy and then got straight back on when I needed caffeine during the first few months

I do worry about the plastic
That was what prompted me to get a soda stream.
I have two bottles which I keep in the fridge. Add fizz to one and the other is cold when I need it.
Our plastic bottle consumption (and storage) went down to zero.
Yes it's a gadget. It stands on top of my fridge, I probably use it more than most other gadgets. I only keep gadgets that are used at least a few times a year -slow cooker, toaster, deep fryer, bread maker. Soda Stream is used weekly.

I drink 2 litres of fizzy water a day from the soda stream. Love it. Was keen to do the subscription with soda stream but I couldn't work out if they pick up empties rather than just bring full bottles - anyone know????

I’ve got the subscription they send out 4 in a box and when you have 4 empties you send them back via Hermes. If you don’t send them back you get charged extra. I’m not quite sure how economical it is, I can’t keep up and currently have 6 gas bottles to use up. I liked the Argos refills for ease but that was stopped during lockdown

@OverByYer thanks for the info. I ordered one cylinder from soda stream and after 2 weeks they said it would be 2 months so I cancelled it, got one next say from amazon and then a month later one from soda stream turned up. I'm not sure I can cope with their customer service otherwise I'd give it a go.

Its been a couple of months now. Very patchy area to area and shop to shop. San pellegrino is unfortunately often available when nothing else is. Unfortunately only because I don’t like it and owned by nestle.
I’ve been revisiting my water filter and soda stream.

Mol1628 · 10/09/2021 20:36

Yes! Especially for the cheap stuff. I’ve been having highland spring. I need fizzy water after I quit drinking Coke about a year ago.

Coffeeonmytoffee · 10/09/2021 20:40

There are lots of shortages. In the supermarket and restaurants. Costa hasnt had decaf for months, McDonald's has massive shortages.
But anyway people wanted brexit so they got all these great things for us.

Crinkle77 · 10/09/2021 23:10

I usually buy the big bottles of value sparkling water for 18p. Struggled to get these for a while in my local Tesco so had to upgrade to the next one up for about 50p. No sparkling water whatsoever in my local Morrisons last weekend.

batmanladybird · 10/09/2021 23:15

Yes. I have been looking for a soda stream too
