Is there a sparkling water shortage everywhere or just by me?

Been to 6 supermarkets this week. Not a single bottle of sparkling water anywhere. Even the stuff that £4/litre.

It’s the one pregnancy craving that’s stuck with me and I neeeeeed it

@lonelySam

I think that's because there are problems with truck drivers availability so the supernarkets stopped stocking bottled water as it takes up a lot of space on a lorry but doesn't bring in a lot of margin. Or so I read.
This is my understanding Bulky, heavy, low profit margin (the expensive stuff is still being stocked here)
Accidentgirlfriend · 09/09/2021 21:45

Do people actually drink this stuff 😂

LimeRedBanana · 09/09/2021 21:47

Our soda stream pretty much exclusively makes sparkling water.

There's a CO2 shortage - we used it in our labs and the lead time for new bottles has increased massively

EnglishGirlApproximately · 09/09/2021 21:50

Another one that can only get it in Lidl!

Incacat2 · 09/09/2021 21:50

There are loads of shortages at the moment. Milk might be next, according to Tesco. These shortages are down to a combination of Brexit and the pandemic. Many companies have lost their foreign workforce. My brother owns a haulage company and says Brexit is the main issue. Imports of toys are also a concern in the run-up to Christmas.

BlackeyedSusan · 09/09/2021 21:51

can't get hold of it here either. I have a couple of bottles left so going to use that before I get worried. It should be back in by the time I get to the end of those [hopeful]

FizziWater · 09/09/2021 21:51

Best thing I ever bought. You can make it as fizzy as you like it. I tried bought FizziWater once after using soda stream and it seemed fkat.

Onynx · 09/09/2021 21:51

It was the same here in Ireland - especially difficult to get the multipacks of the smaller 500ml bottles across all brands and retailers. It seems to be a bit better the past two wks. Our local store said it's a supply issue with the carbon.

OxanaVorontsova · 09/09/2021 21:51

Not here, thanks to my sodastream

Geriatric1234 · 09/09/2021 22:04

YES. Never has a thread resonated so powerfully with me.

Moonface123 · 09/09/2021 22:04

The local corner shops do not seem to be affected as much as the big supermarkets.

Geriatric1234 · 09/09/2021 22:05

I also have a soda stream and confirm it’s a good back-up.

TheyreTheSamePicture · 09/09/2021 22:06

We haven’t had any for weeks Sad I love fizzy water and fresh OJ together and it’s been impossible to get hold of

idontlikealdi · 09/09/2021 22:08

Sodastream here too. From the fridge and the right gas level it's perfect.

Plump82 · 09/09/2021 22:09

@mydogmylife it's been such a hardship I've been FORCED to drink wine!

costerica · 09/09/2021 22:10

I do worry about the plastic. I drink about 8 litres a week. Do I really want another appliance clogging up the kitchen though?

OP posts:
NotSure94 · 09/09/2021 22:12

No shortage here in the Midlands and me and my elder son guzzle the stuff.

Howmanysleepsnow · 09/09/2021 22:18

Wholesalers here are rationing to 48 bottles per customer (shelves are still empty though)

adagio · 09/09/2021 22:19

Are soda syphon’s any good? Cost efficient?

I rediscovered wine and soda but the second half of the ‘soda’ on day 2 is rather flat and by day 3 I may as well use the tap. But as a siphon seems a pricy gadget investment not sure wether to risk it. Soda stream definitely seems a gadget on the counter too far for me.

8 x litres x 4 weeks x 9 months = 288 plastic bottles Shock

Please get a soda stream.

OverByYer · 09/09/2021 22:23

I switched to soda stream as hated having so much plastic to dispose of. Not sure it works out cheaper but keeps my conscience clear

Gingercatlover · 09/09/2021 22:23

I'd say it's national, my Tesco (Lincolnshire) haven't had any for weeks before that it was still water, but that seems ok now.
Also hit and miss with fresh Orange juice and Coca Cola.

StealthPolarBear · 09/09/2021 22:26

Milk next?!!

alwaysscared · 09/09/2021 22:27

I am a sparking water fiend and have really been struggling to find some!
DH went to local ALDI and got me 16 bottles, that will last a few days.
Am considering soda stream because if the plastic waste, DS's old school collected them for a greenhouse so I didn't feel so guilty then
