Mobile data and DD11… what to do?

Dd is 11 and started high school this week.
She travels by bus, about 20 mins each way although yesterday traffic was awful and it was 50 mins coming home. This is not unusual as there seem to be accidents and roadworks constantly!
She has a top-up phone and has used the £10 I put on it in 5 days, mainly on mobile data. She admits she hadn’t realised how much YouTube uses and she’d been watching that on the bus.
So I can’t work out what to do for the best now.
I have deleted YouTube for the moment, she still needs mobile data on for other apps etc that they may need in school.
I think it would be better to go to a contract but can’t work out how much data is sensible. I use very little myself away from home.

What contracts have your high school kids got, how much data allowance? Trying to get an idea of what to go for now.

Just the thought of watching YouTube or reading a book on the bus is making me feel sick! I don't think music uses as much data, and Spotify lets you download to your phone so that might be a better option?

Rather than YouTube could she listen to podcasts? Download episodes at home on the WiFi? Or even if she does use data it’s not nearly as much as YouTube.

Thanks all. DH is with ID mobile and he finds them very good for coverage here, plus some decent deals on sims. So I think we’re going to order one of those. Have done a small top up to last until it comes, and dd has been so contrite, although it really was not at all deliberate, just a very steep learning curve as with everything this week. She was just utterly naive about how much data half an hour of YouTube would use.

In case anyone was worried, she’s done all her homework, dance class, eaten dinner and is now happily reading in bed 😁

Giff gaff and three do cheap sim only contracts £10/ month ish for 10GB data - which might be enough or some are up to 30GB data if She is watching YouTube on her commute - it's not unreasonable to do that or stream music just switch her over

Does the bus have WiFi? Many do, so that would be the first thing for her to check.

If not, you should probably get a cheap month to month sim only deal, where you pay by card, not a full direct debit type contract.

No idea how much data YouTube uses or if it's counted in any of the 'free social media' deals, I'd think not.
