We have two fosterlings, our oldest fosterling has been with us since he was 7 weeks old, he's now almost 18 months, and has an attachment disorder. When he is upset, hurt, sad, tired, hungry he would rather be left to self soothe and settle, his preferred place was a quiet, dark space. He didn't smile or seek attention from us, he avoided being touched until recently, now he is starting to want a cuddle. Today his arm gave way while he was crawling and it gave him a bit of a shock, he cried briefly then looked at me. I asked him if he wanted a cuddle and he said "da" (his word for yes), he crawled over to where I was on the sofa, hauled himself to his feet laid his head against my knee and let me stroke his head. It has taken us over a year to get to this place and it has made what is a stressful day (DH has a scan today to see how his tumours are progressing, he has terminal cancer) a much better day.
