I got the mirena fitted in April to help with really bad periods. I'm 40 and have three children. I've never really used hormone based contraceptives. I tried the pill on and of when I was younger but it was really hit and miss depending on the brand. After the mirena was fitted I had a period when I was due it and spotting for a few weeks. I then had a lighter period on July 19th that lasted a good ten days. I've had no bleeding since. Over the last two weeks my stomach is constantly bloated and I actually look 6 months pregnant. I walk a minimum of 6k everyday and I do two one hour gym classes a week (weights, cardio), I watch my diet during the week and have a treat at the weekend. My stomach has never looked like this and is usually fairly flat as I had abdominoplasity about four years ago. My DH is quite shocked and worried. I've tried to get an appointnent with GP but cannot get through. Myself and DH googled mirena side effects and bloating was one of them. I'm really down as I'm trying my best to stay fit and healthy and now I have this huge stomach that has just appeared. Im really thinking about having the mirena removed. Has anybody else experienced this and will it calm down. Thanks for reading.
