If your dc have had a social worker, did they do the things they said they would? Ours doesn't :(

I'm just curious really because I'm trying to gauge if my expectations are too high and unrealistic.

We have social worker involvement because I requested it due to my mental health and my fears it was affecting ds. Our first SW cancelled on us a lot and didn't do the things they said they would.

We've moved areas now and our new SW here was full of promises etc. Already they've not done what they said they would do to support ds with going back to school. He's gone back with no support in place. SW made the promises of support in front of him so his hopes were up too.

Is this reflective of other people's experiences with social services? I understand that they are overloaded with cases etc so is it best to just take what they say with a pinch of salt and give up on expecting actual support from them?

What do people do when they need help if the people promising to help don't do it?

The best support we have had this year has been the social worker from Post Adoption Support. Can't fault her.

I suspect they are very overloaded & underfunded.

That’s good that you’ve had good support. I definitely agree that they are overloaded and underfunded.

I just wish they would do what they say that are going to do.

Not doing as promised would drive me crazy. People shouldn't make promises they can't keep.
