What would you do if a cheque you had been gifted bounced?

I'd say nothing.

Fluffypastelslippers · 09/09/2021 12:09

It gets returned to the person who gave you it, or at least it used to, so I would expect them to contact me maybe. It all depends on circumstance though, and context.

What happened?

@SoupDragon

I'd say nothing.
This is what I thought Smile

Depends on the circumstances really. I think I’d let them know

NotAnotherPushyMum · 09/09/2021 12:15

Their bank will let them know. Just stay quiet and see if they say anything.

It was posted to us as a gift for new DD so I attempted to deposit using the banking app (other cheques have gone through fine) and it's been rejected by the bank.

I was thinking I'd just put the money into an account for DD anyway and not say anything but didn't know if the gifter gets notified of the banks rejection etc?

Rejected or bounced? Not the same thing. I often have to take a cheque into the bank because my app won't accept it.

Fluffypastelslippers · 09/09/2021 12:18

In fact I am going to guess it has rejected at your attempt to deposit that it hasn't bounced at all. Try to pay it in to the branch.

girlmom21 · 09/09/2021 12:19

Oh I assumed rejected and bounced were the same thing. Thanks -I'll take it to a branch! Smile

No not at all, it would only bounce at the point the bank tried to take the money from the persons account. If your app won't accept it then it's more likely to be a minor tech issue as they don't apply to take the money at the point of upload.

Absolutely

It might get rejected if it wasnt signed or dated properly

PersonaNonGarter · 09/09/2021 12:29

What kind of thank you letter did you send the wedding guest?

Yes, did you check the cheque?

It's signed and dated, everything looks in order so could be anything but I'll take it to a branch. If they don't accept it it's fine - I'll say nothing and deposit the money into the account myself Smile
