To hate top city/area lists

Today it was announced that the already mad property area of Manchester was the only U.K area listed 3rd on Time Outs top ‘coolest list’.

More recently I’m noticing posters being frustrated at droves of people moving to areas for second homes in picturesque towns after being listed on one of these ‘wonderful’ lists.

International sellers buying up properties in cash without viewing a property, creating a competition frenzy.

Must be Estate Agents and Journalists sharing a cut!

To think these lists are creating more harm than good?

I dont think anyone gives a rats arse about them really

I agree, I dint think it's coincidence that the area I live is keeps being voted best in the north west and the house prices keep getting more ridiculous!

@ssd slow clap

No one buys a property on the basis of a list. They have their own criteria, as do many others, and those criteria (transport, green spaces, property prices) usually overlap with the list criteria.

RamblingJenny · 09/09/2021 09:30

@Hopdathelf Fair point. But those points don’t make a difference to international buyers?

I ignore them personally, having spent seven utterly miserable years in an insular, xenophobic midlands village that had been deemed in the top ten places to live in the UK by some C of E research.

Apparently I live in a town that regularly tops both the best and the worst lists.

Which is about right.

Look, no one is going to look at that list and think I must move to, say, San Francisco. Ordinary earners have long been priced out and it is shambolic and full of homelessness and destitution. Los Angeles much the same. So why do you think people from round the world will swoop on Manchester? It is a silly list accompanied by heavily photoshopped pictures and almost no useful information about any of those places. It's tourist fluff.
