£600 gone

Opened a letter last night that says they've decided I'm not entitled to any PIP.

I've been receiving the enhanced rates for daily and mobility for years.

I've never been able to work.

I've stayed up all night to write a letter and collect evidence only to be told it's taking them longer than the 10 week time line to reconsider despite it taking them 5 days to decide to remove all of my award.

I asked how I'm supposed to manage with £600+ removed.
I was told I can get a job as it isn't means-tested.

Unfuckingbelievable

I'm so sorry OP. Please do contact CAB and any relevant charities ASAP to start your appeal. It pisses me off no end when idiots start with the "scrounges faking disabilities for benefits" because actually THIS is the reality of having to claim benefits, they're a bureaucratic nightmare and can be stopped for weeks on end with no reason. There's bugger all support available too when things go wrong. I hope you get it sorted OP.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 08/09/2021 11:56

I'm so sorry to hear this, so stressful for you I receive high on both too
CAB did my last forms as it's such a minefield Please contact them ASAP
The first step is a Mandatory Reconsideration then appeal if this fails Most claimants in your position would get it reinstated but it takes time.
If there is an organisation specific to your disabilities/ illnesses Contact them too.
Good luck and don't despair
You may be entitled to a discretionary payment to cover housing so it's worth contacting your Council too

@Tooembarrassingtomention

Very few people cant work at all- it is about getting the right support in place.

Can you get advice and help with this?

Unless you’re an expert, speak nothing about which you know nothing.

Does your 3yos other parent pay maintenance? Are they getting the benefits they should? Your health visitor could maybe help with this?

MistySkiesAfterRain · 08/09/2021 12:00

Contact Fightback4Justice, this is what they do.

But some people just can’t and they shouldn’t be assessed by people not qualified in their conditions and then have DLA suddenly removed. It’s appalling.

OP DH got his DLA stopped then awarded pip on appeal. I genuinely don’t understand how people think some claim it fraudulently because getting it legitimately is a bloody nightmare!

I hope you can get someone to help with the forms/appeal/supporting evidence & the wait isn’t too long- good luck!

WetWeekends · 08/09/2021 12:10

The “benefits and work” website have brilliant guides for how to appeal. You do have to pay to join but it’s well worth it in my opinion. I also agree with the PP suggesting asking your MP’s office to help speed up the appeal. Also contact your Consultant if you have one to ask them to provide evidence about how your condition affects your ability to walk and your ability to carry out daily living activities. You need to be very specific about how you’re affected.

That’s great that you’re going to offer the OP a suitable job. Well done you! 👏👏👏

HI OP

I am going through the same process, although mine has gone to tribunal now and I am awaiting that. No real advice, just good luck with it all, also depending on what your disability is, it might be worth contacting any charities that deal specifically with that, you can try writing to your MP, but if they are like mine, you gained a lovely friend in their secretary and not much else.

SERIOUSLY????? FFS have some empathy.

Sorry OP you’ve had lots of informed advice which I cannot match, so unlike the previous poster I won’t spout nonsense

As a short term sticking plaster while you get it sorted, do you have any savings, family who would help out etc etc?

Plumtree391 · 08/09/2021 12:31

That's dreadful, I'm so sorry user. I have heard a lot of similar stories. Is there anyone experienced in dealing with this sort of thing who can help you object?

The Benefits system is seriously skewed.

Good luck.

OP - have you consulted Benefits and Work or similar? They have a good track record of success:

Was this a renewal or a change of circumstances? I'm probably wrong but thought if you were already on the benefit they couldn't decide you were no longer entitled without an assessment though I think at the moment most of them are over the phone rather than in person. Have you asked for a copy of your report to see where they took the points away?

Greystray · 08/09/2021 12:38

Start following all these avenues OP.

I expect you will get it reinstated on appeal, but I'm sorry you're being put through this.

Try having a bit of empathy.

Are you going to offer the OP a suitable job? Do you have any idea how difficult it is to get a job when you have a disability?

uncomfortablydumb53 · 08/09/2021 12:39

Your user name is very apt and your ignorance is jaw dropping

Transportation to hospital… is there a charitable transport service in your area? Ask Gp or hospital

Ask hv for emergency food bank referral too

It's also about the fact that disability discrimination exists.
munchbunch12 · 08/09/2021 12:51

I echo the people who said CAB and also your MP, who should be able to get things moving faster for you. They may even have a dedicated team who deal with MP letters and phonecalls.

SweetPetrichor · 08/09/2021 12:52

My SIL had her PIP rejected but reinstated on appeal. It seems common to force appeal, unfortunately.

Brollypackedforscottishholiday · 08/09/2021 12:54

Try and contact your MP op.
. Ime they can help with benefits etc...

BaconMassive · 08/09/2021 12:56

Any way to reduce rent in the short term?

MuthaFunka61 · 08/09/2021 12:58

I second Fightback4Justice.

I've been helped lots by this charity who have good relations with DWP and understand the system inside out. There's a fb page and an informative website too and although there's a small subscription fee to access the really useful stuff you only need pay this whilst you are using these services. Once your claim is settled you can stop your subscription and rejoin if necessary.

Anyone who thinks that there's adequate in job support available is being delusional.
I'm looking at you @Tooembarrassingtomention

nonetcurtains · 08/09/2021 12:59

Contact Fightback4Justice, this is what they do.
Agreed. They helped me get PIP.
