Washing school blazers

Are they ok to bung in the washing machine? DS's didn't come with any washing instructions and he's never had a blazer before.

He's never wore deodorant or smelled sweaty before, but after wearing the blazer for 4 days it stinks of BO Envy

I used to wash my dcs, yes. I think they're just polyester. Is there a washing label? I never had any problems with washing them.

UserAtLargeAgain · 08/09/2021 11:21

Depends on what it's made of surely? My DD's one just goes in the washing machine, but it's polyester.

illuyankas · 08/09/2021 11:30

I wash them. I use delicate washing detergent, put in the washing bag inside out, and use the delicate hand wash cycle.
Seems totally fine after 2 years.

I also use the anti bacterial fabric freshener spray in between the wash to keep it fresh smelling.

halcyondays · 08/09/2021 11:33

You can usually wash polyester blazers but wool needs to be dry cleaned.

SoupDragon · 08/09/2021 11:37

I've always just shoved them in the washing machine with everything else. They were definitely washable ones, not wool though!

purplesequins · 08/09/2021 11:39

ask the supplier.
but from my experience the synthetic ones are washable.
I put it on a delicate cycle and hung on a coathanger to dry.
sooo glad that my dc now go to a no uniform school

isitjustlockdown · 08/09/2021 11:41

It will depend on the material. My DDs is synthetic and we just it every Friday (and mid week in hot weather).

My sons however was dry clean only, however it didn't seem to cause ias much sweating/smell. We managed having two of them and dry cleaning every few weeks.

IHateCoronavirus · 08/09/2021 11:42

I wash mine all the time (3 stinky teens). But iron it at your peril! Blush

Theoldwoman · 08/09/2021 11:42

I used to wash my kids in the washing machine. Gentle/wool cycle with a bit of wool wash and hang in fresh air to dry.

NeverTalkToStrangers · 08/09/2021 11:43

Delicate wash, don't tumble dry, don't iron. Are you sure there aren't any care instructions? They're often attached tucked away inside one of the inside pockets.

finished31 · 08/09/2021 11:45

I wash my sons regular. I use an ironing cloth otherwise they leave shiny marks (black blazer) from the iron.

Clymene · 08/09/2021 11:46

It must have care instructions. I think it's a legal requirement.

But yea polyester I just bung in a regular wash and put on a hanger to dry (and I feel your pain re stinky teenage boys!)

idontlikealdi · 08/09/2021 11:56

Depends what it's made from. Wool will shrink and stink like a wet
Dog forevermore. Polyester crack on but don't iron it!

Djifunrsn · 08/09/2021 12:08

Depends very much on what the blazer is made of. Ours go in the wash, hang up and they will be dry the next morning. If not, they even tolerate 5-10 mins in the tumble dryer. But yours may be made of something a bit more fragile. Ours are David Luke brand.

purplesequins · 08/09/2021 12:13

havd you cut open all pockets?
instructions for dc school blazer was in ond of the 3000 many inside pockets.
most were sewn closed.
