Gym class - WWYHD

I started go to a regular gym class about 3 weeks ago so this afternoon was my 5th time. It's in a big hall and I arrived early today so I set up in a back corner out of the way - there's about 40 people in the class and I say hi to a few now as weve chatted a little, usually about how hard the class is, but I dont know any names or anything yet.

A group of women arrived and one stood in the spot in front of me - no problems. Then her friend says to her "aww are you not in your spot today? There's enough room for you to squeeze in here - you can always kick her if she's in the way"

I was looking at my phone at the time (the class hadnt started yet) but was gobsmacked. I stayed in the spot for a little while longer and then moved so the original woman could get in which she did quickly with no comment.

I'm so annoyed at myself for not saying anything but really wasnt expecting it! Is this how mean exercise classes are these days?!

What would you have done?

People do get very territorial. I was in roughly the same spot for about 5 years in one class. It's just habit.
If I arrived and someone was in 'my ' spot I wouldn't have made any stupid comments, I just have found another space. I wouldn't have moved if I was in someone else's spot either though.

I’d have said something like “did you really just say she could kick me” with my best fuck right off stare. How awful.

I would have said very loudly, ‘Please can you and your friend give me some space, either one or both of you has dreadful B.O!’

Thanks everyone! It just feels so unnecessary and I felt really uncomfortable for the session.

What's worse is that I'm usually quite confident but this just threw me off balance. I'm going to go back tomorrow though!

I've left a gym class before when a woman started bitching at me that I was in her spot and then the instructor asked me to move. Wouldn't have minded (would assume that there was a good reason if instructor asking me to move) but she was 5 minutes late to the class so I don't see why I should be the one to move my mat etc

Sorry, this has happened there are some horrible intitled people out there,I'd be tempted to stand back in that spot next time as I wouldn't want to reward their bad behavior.

hugs for you.
