What would you have at a wedding after the main meal in the evening I don’t really want a standard buffet the quirkier the better.

Our friends had miniature fish and chips which were divine and served in little cones!

Or cheese fondue

Or Dominoes pizza

Best I've had were cones of chips or dominoes pizzas

Hog Roast - I went to a wedding reception with this and it was great. A pig on a spit with a huge pile of hot stuffing, a big bowl of apple sauce and it got stuffed into a big barm/cob/bap/roll by one guy/chef stood behind it all serving it up as you walked up when you wanted to. Depends on how many veggies/vegans you have attending, I suppose.

Indian tiffin boxes? Build your own bagel(s)?

needsomesleeppls · 07/09/2021 19:23

Mini pies and a huge cheesboard was good

Bacon sandwiches always good.

ImInStealthMode · 07/09/2021 19:24

We're having a buffet for the main meal, and then later in the evening will serve both of our cakes (one an actual cake, one made of cheese).

SpamThief · 07/09/2021 19:25

Pizza's a good idea. At that point in proceedings people want carbs/soakage.

DressBitch · 07/09/2021 19:27

My friend had curry.

Greytminds · 07/09/2021 19:39

We had sweet and savoury crepes, hot drinks and ice creams from a street food vendor but ours was an afternoon wedding so we’d had an early evening meal at 4 and then crepes etc from 7.30.

NotYourCupOfTea · 07/09/2021 19:40

Cheese board with cold meats and bread etc

AdaColeman · 07/09/2021 19:42

Hot pork pies and mushy peas.

Hot dogs.

Cassoulet

Bacon rolls & soup

Boiled bacon & colcannon

Gammon, chips & eggs

Whatever you do, having just read through the worst wedding food thread, make sure (a) there's enough for everybody, (b) it's hot (if meant to be served hot Grin), (c) there's a decent alternative (or several) for people who can't eat the main option for medical/religious/ethical reasons, and there's enough of those options too, and if necessary they're put to one side or served separately so the people who really need the alternatives actually get them.

Hog roast/bacon rolls aren't going to work for everyone by any stretch of the imagination.

CallMeRisley · 07/09/2021 20:04

What would you count as the “standard buffet”, OP? Because I always see people on these threads recommending bacon buns or hot pork buns as a “different” “quirky” option, but I’d say that’s a pretty standard evening food option and has been at every wedding I’ve been to for the past 5 years apart from one that was in Cornwall and had pasties.

Love the idea of a woodfired pizza oven/van, or other local independent food trucks- I was thinking about a local Mac & Cheese one (with all different toppings),

Mrgrinch · 07/09/2021 20:12

Pizza

onlyhereforthefood · 07/09/2021 20:12

We're doing massive pizza slices at ours in 2.5 weeks, I'm most excited for the food!

mamaduckbone · 07/09/2021 21:44

We had a hog roast - it went down very well (and it's my one regret from my wedding day that I didn't have any)

FizzyDibdab · 07/09/2021 22:14

We had a full curry buffet which went down a storm so on the menu were:

Veg Samosas
Veg Kofta
Naan bread
Veggie pakora
Lamb curry
Veg curry
Tandoori chicken
Zeera rice

Mango ice cream
Wedding cake
