Nurseries you thought you'd love

I was wondering how many other parents do this. When I was looking for my twins, I was looking at a nursery nearby, in the grounds of what was once a stately home. According to the website it was absolute nirvana for children and I thought I was going to visit to basically just sign up there and then.

When I entered (it was my first ever nursery visit) I was absolutely horrified. There was no structure whatsoever, it was scruffy, dangerous and I vowed never to send my dog there nevermind my children.

I ended up going with a purpose built nursery, my DT's absolutely love it there but it just shows how you really do have to visit these places (not easy during a pandemic)

I was recently informed that the original nursery had had 2 serious incidents involving children breaking bones within a short amount of time and it had been suspended by offsted until issues regarding health & safety were addressed.

Their website still looks absolutely amazing lol

I think we should have state owned/run nurseries same as schools, I think private businesses making a profit from early education (often by cutting as many corners and employing as many 16 years olds as they can get away with) is just not a good system.

When ds1 started nursery, I visited pretty much all in the local area. The 2 ofsted outstanding, highly rated, recommended places I absolutely hated.
Went for one with a less than perfect reputation, and fell in love with it on first visit. 6 years later and ds2 goes now and it’s still absolutely fab.

It’s all personal preference and I would always advise to go on gut feeling rather than reputation.

We placed ds in one that boasted a lovely, organic menu. All manner of lovely food listed.

In reality, they were given Quorn bolognese and cream crackers with Dairylea and jam every day 🤢
