Hi my son recently left 6th form. He's waiting to hear about a police apprenticeship thar he has his heart set on. But its taking quite a while hearing back from them . DS has become quite depressed. And is getting to the stage of staying in his room on play station . He said he feeling quite withdrawn and feels he has no focus. He's touched on getting a job even if its temporary whilst he waits to hear about the apprenticeship.

He said he does not have a CV so can anyone tell me/us how a CV is done? I have heard that you can get free templates to go cv? How do they work?

Any other advice you think that might be helpful to him would be great thank you Smile

Is a good starting point.
Has he signed on for universal credit? If so he’ll get help from a work coach. There are kickstart schemes funded by the govt for people in his situation

Try nationalcareerservice.gov.uk
Free service and you can contact them in various ways. He might benefit from ringing them gets him away from the pc and talking to someone which is a necessary skill for a police officer! I appreciate it is really difficult at the moment. Do look there - I used to work there a few years ago and we helped thousands of people.

Would your son consider doing a school leavers skills course while waiting for the apprenticeship? Most colleges do similar courses for school leavers to equip them for apprenticeships & work. Have a look at your local college for similar to this:

www.candi.ac.uk/school-leavers-vocational-courses/

This way he'll keep his CV active, learn new skills and show the police that he's serious about joining them.
