How long did it take your 3 year old to get used to nursery?

DS, age 3, has just started nursery, having been out for 18 months due to a mixture of Covid and mat leave. When I picked him up, he said he'd missed me, he'd been looking for me, he'd been crying and hadn't I heard him Sad

DS is quite reserved and not very sociable. We go to lots of toddler groups and see other children his age every week, but he often plays alone, so I knew he would struggle. We've also only spent a few hours apart at a time since Covid hit. Financially, I have to work, so he has to go in 2 days a week.

DS cried and cried at drop off this morning. It's only his second day. Please tell me it gets better!

My sons the same age and it's his second day today and he's been the same I do hope it does get better.

My eldest took a while to settle and never really played with other children. She just tolerated it. Can you have a chat with the staff to see if they could get him engaged in something?

It does.
He’s probably old enough to understand a bit better now
Plenty of positivity about how much fun he is going to have and what time you will be back

Fingers crossed us both @Hill1991

I worry DS will be the same @DragonLegs. How did your daughter take to school? I know his key worker is trying very hard to engage him but he had a full meltdown this morning Sad

Thanks @Danikm151, I will keep being super positive and hopefully he'll come round.
