Is it worth getting an Apple Watch?

I'd like something to track fitness. Also to be able to take calls, WhatsApp messages, listen to music (I have AirPods). I don't want to have to take my phone with me.

Anyone got one and love it or think it's not worth it perhaps?

Appreciate any thoughts

I've bought one twice. First one when they were launched a few years ago - I didn't like it. It was big and clunky and wasn't as good as my Fitbit for tracking fitness so I returned it. I tried again this year as I thought technology might have moved on but it still wasn't as good a fitness tracker as a Fitbit. I also found it unreliable, apps would stop working and need reloading often, the Pay function didn't always work and the battery life is rubbish, less than 24 hours which renders the sleep tracking pretty useless. I sold that one on EBay.

Normally I'm a huge Apple fan and am happy to pay the extra for their products but the watches don't impress me at all. IMO they are just phones on your wrist with a few half arsed fitness functions added. OTOH my daughter loves her Apple Watch but then she isn't into fitness at all.

If you do get one make sure you buy the more expensive version with cellular capacity. If you don't have that you still have to carry your phone with you.

Fitbit now sell smart watches that have a lot of the functions of an Apple Watch (texts/SM/payment etc) alongside all the fitness functions and they are quite a bit cheaper than Apple. Maybe try one of them first. They have a 45 day return period so if you don't get on with it you can send it back.

If you want to take calls without taking your phone with you then You'll need the more expensive cellular version that can take a SIM card.

I just have the non-sim card one and love it, but I'm a fan of Apple in general and like that my phone, tablet, ear buds and watch all talk to each other and self update and it's just easy.
