I need to move and I’m seemingly incapable of deciding where! My dc are scattered around England, and I don’t especially want to stay where I am now. I have £800k to use and I need 3 beds minimum. Please help me!

Buy a small flat near each of your children.

As long as you don’t have more than six you will be fine.

HollowTalk · 05/09/2021 22:53

Which cities/counties are your children in? Do you like one more than the others?

SomeLikeItTepid · 05/09/2021 22:53

Where are you now, and what would you love to see when you open the curtains in the morning? You have a pretty healthy budget.

Not much help! But maybe narrow down the search to things you'd love have on your doorstep.

MovingSchmoving · 05/09/2021 22:54

We need to know a bit more…! What stuff do you like? The beach, hill walking, cities, theatres? What are your hobbies? You must have ties to some areas whether that be other family or friends. Do you want to be need good road or rail links? If so to which places?

FizzyDibdab · 05/09/2021 22:57

How old are you?
Are you still working/wfh or retired?
Do you have health considerations so do you need to be near a hospital?
Do you like to be near social facilities?

PermanentTemporary · 05/09/2021 23:02

This is a dream type of house in a great location, if I had that budget. That's for my stage of life though.

PermanentTemporary · 05/09/2021 23:05

Ruthietuthie · 05/09/2021 23:45

I would want to live in Cambridge.
What about this one, short walk to the Botanic Gardens?

OR this one, in gorgeous Newnham Village? With a nice cricket pitch view.

Sorry for late reply, little issue of a flood in the kitchen! To try and answer questions - my children currently are one on the south coast, one in South Shields, one in Reading and one about to go to uni next year but not sure where yet! (Only 4 of them, not 10 thankfully!)

At the minute I live in a big town. I want to live somewhere smaller that has a local shop, a doctor’s surgery and that has good links to a bigger town for anything I can’t get locally.

I don’t really have ties to anywhere. No family and of course, who knows where the dc will end up. All friends where I live now say they will eventually move away from here (we’re close to London) but they have husbands and families (I’m widowed).

I’m more of a coast than countryside person but coast is more expensive. Thanks for the links and the help so far!

That house in Harlech is stunning!

Pennyfull · 06/09/2021 04:30

I like the Little Marston one too!

Pennyfull · 06/09/2021 04:33

And both the Cambridge ones! You folks are good at this!

I’d been thinking I wanted a modern house as my current one is old and there’s always something going wrong, but I think my heart belongs to old!

Bloody hell, that Harlech house is an absolute beauty [shocked]

Want your own en suite cinema? 😊

I’d love this if I had the money.

North Berwick or Dunbar if you'd go that far north? Both great little market town sort of sized places, good train links into Edinburgh for your bigger city needs (or even Newcastle from Dunbar) and Dunbar is on the Edinburgh-London east coast line.
Or Portobello to the north east of Edinburgh is more suburban but right by the beach with a lovely high street and 20mins into the city on excellent bus services.
Would you consider near your child in South Shields? There's some lovely coastline with easy access into Newcastle on the Metro and your budget would probably get you a seaview.

Jerseygirl12 · 06/09/2021 14:52

I second Chichester.

RosesAndHellebores · 06/09/2021 15:03

In Yr shoes I'd look Beds/Cambridge next Stansted and motorway network. I'd also spend less on the property to keep liquid assets for travelling/hotel stays, etc.
