Post drinking anxiety

I know it's common, but my god does it get worse as you get older. I don't drink often anymore but I drank too much last night and today I'm being haunted by the dreaded FEAR. Can't bare to look at my phone, my bank account, shit scared I did or said something awful, guilt.

Is there any way out of it?? Do I just need to ride it out?

Help!

Look at your phone, check your bank, get it done then you will feel a bit better.

I do think it gets worse as you get older.

How's your hangover? These deffo get worse!

Skelator1 · 05/09/2021 16:45

I think you need to check everything then you'll feel better!

nancybotwinbloom · 05/09/2021 16:45

If no one has rang and said anything to you yet am sure you were fine. Big hugs and a bacon butty send virtuallly xxxx

inevitablytired · 05/09/2021 16:46

I get it really badly and find that after an initial check of my phone, getting off it for the rest of the day really helps! Think something about mindlessly scrolling social media makes it worse

DiscontentedWoman · 05/09/2021 16:46

If you can stand it, have a shower and alternate the hot and cold. 20 seconds of cold preferably and do it on the back of your neck. Brutal but it will bring you round a bit.

nancybotwinbloom · 05/09/2021 16:47

Chinese and some comedy on the telly with a quilt on the sofa will sort you out.

Fishocado · 05/09/2021 16:51

This is the reason I have given up drinking since yesterday.

I am an absolute mess still today.

I lost some possessions as well so it was an expensive night out.

biggerthehoops · 05/09/2021 16:52

That's all great advice. I'm a bit scare of the shower thing but willing to try!

And yes I've been mindlessly scrolling social media and I think I need to find a good show to take my mind off things instead.

Okay... I'm going to look at my messages and bank 😩

@biggerthehoops

£127...
🙈🙈 How long were you out for?
biggerthehoops · 05/09/2021 17:02

That did include taxis and a new Vape (having given up 2 months ago 🙄)

It's kind of what I expected but such a waste. I was out about 7 hours

Texts aren't too bad... I had a slight recollection of messaging an ex because y friend told me he had got married while we were still seeing each other. I did indeed call him out on it on text and the messages are pretty cringe. I also had a 20 minute conversation with another guy I used to see apparently which I have no memory of. Ffs.

How do people do this every weekend??

OP posts:
TuttleTottle · 05/09/2021 17:05

I find it gets worse as I get older even though I seem to actually be a more responsible tipsy person! Probably because I don't dare get "drunk" anymore. Too many important colleagues in my phone.

Fishocado · 05/09/2021 17:06

The not drinking or the anxiety?

I felt amazing when I didn't drink for a while; this time it ended up with a blackout and lost possessions.

I just keep a list of stuff to do that doesn't involve alcohol (which is what i am going back to).

nancybotwinbloom · 05/09/2021 17:08

Nothing too outrageous then.

Park it now in your head.

Stop worrying and enjoy the rest of the day chilling out.

Get a nice feel good Film on, get some carbs into you and chalk it up.

£127 to feel like shit and give you anxiety.
But it's no big drama.

Be kind to yourself and stop worrying

nancybotwinbloom · 05/09/2021 17:10

Next time just have less to drink but it's easy to get caught up in the moment.

Life is for living.

I meant the losing possessions sounded awful. Yes I think I need to knock it on the head altogether. Because it's a rare occurrence these days I tell myself it's okay but the way I feel today I don't ever want to feel

I have this exact same thing OP1 you're not alone.

What have I said to who? What have I done? Etc. I don't drink much with colleague now for this reason - 2 drink limit, only get a third if we're out for a v long time (8 hours or so) sorry that's not helpful now.

Honestly the best cure is greasy food and a comedy on the telly. Talk through your feelings with a friend if poss.

Fishocado · 05/09/2021 18:00

List is basically...

10 things that need doing in the garden
10 museums
10 walks I want to take
10 places i would like to eat in
10 places I would like to visit and do art
10 unusual things i want to do
10 movies
10 recipies

And then I rotated it every couple of weeks.

nancybotwinbloom · 05/09/2021 18:03

Sounds good
