@wellbehavedwomen thank you so much for posts. You managed to convey your point just beautifully. I am going into my well-lit bathroom to check tonight, and intend on making a habit of it.
Keep doing what you're doing.
I'm sure Sarah would be very pleased to see how you're spending the word.
Rest in peace Sarah x

Ah that’s such sad news. I have thought about Sarah from time to time.
My thoughts are with her poor family and friends.
I recently had a breast screen and the lady said to check your breast monthly and on your birth date.
Thanks for you well written posts well behaved.
I know two nurses under 40 who had rare types of breast cancer and both survived thankfully.
We do forget how previous life is.

Rip Sarah

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 05/09/2021 19:40

My mum lived for 7 precious years with stage 4 cancer in her bones, lungs and liver and for much of that time she was pretty well; going on holidays and days out, playing with her grandkids. Hers was hormone responsive and the drugs did her well for a long time. She only had chemo right at the end when the other stuff had failed.

Of course it's still really bad news to have stage 4 cancer and she was initially told 6 months to 2 years but I do think survival is improving from when that data was collected. It's still a lottery and not everyone can be so lucky but I do thank God that we had that extra time with her and I hope that with treatments improving all the time many more women can survive.

She also saw it as an odd blessing in some ways to know that she was 'on borrowed time'. She did make the most of all she was still able to do and she prepared everything for after her death. She knew pretty well when her last Christmas and her last wedding anniversary would be and we all moved heaven and earth to make those special. It has made me really aware of time ticking away and that we never know how long we have.

Loved her vocals, particularly on this one. Am very sorry she is no longer with us.
StrongCoffeAvalanche · 05/09/2021 21:06

This is just so terribly sad. Rest in peace Sarah Thanks

LeSquigh · 05/09/2021 22:14

Every time that Girls Aloud have popped up on my music shuffle recently I have thought about Sarah and feared the inevitable news that today has brought.

I am more sad about this than I expected to be. So very sad. What a beautiful and talented lady she was. Rest in peace Sarah, you will be forever young.

RelentlessForwardProgress · 05/09/2021 22:17

Sorry to hear that. RIP beautiful lady

Queenie6655 · 05/09/2021 22:23

@wellbehavedwomen

Sorry, that monster post was to *@RelentlessForwardProgress* and would probably have been better as a PM.

Please check your boobs tonight, Mumsnetters. Please. Not just by touch - look in a mirror, good lighting, arms raised and down, topless. Look for skin changes, vein changes, nipple changes, anything that isn't symmetrical.

And never feel stupid bothering your GP. I felt a complete twit seeing her with dimple things on one boob - she told me later she'd taken one look and known. They would always, always rather waste their time with a hundred false alarms than miss a woman with cancer.

Poor lovely Sarah Heartbreaking

Thank you also for sharing this

Xxxxxxx

RIP. 💔

IndecentCakes · 05/09/2021 22:28

Terrible news, I have felt very shaken by this and the death of Helen McCrory earlier in the year.

DateLoaf · 05/09/2021 22:28

Oh bless her. Flowers

Happyfeet1972 · 05/09/2021 23:00

Very very sad. RIP Sarah, life can be so cruel

PresidentJoey · 05/09/2021 23:11

Poor Sarah. I loved her in the Passions of Girls Aloud when she tried to become a polo player, she seemed such a strong woman.

ScreamingMeMe · 06/09/2021 12:34

Really sad news. Girls Aloud were fantastic, and she was a force: she always gave her all.

Nice tribute here:

Rest in peace Sarah. So sad. I remember watching her on Living with Lucy and she was lovely.

Greyandrare123 · 06/09/2021 13:41

Ive stage 4 BC and Ive had it for 2 years. Im doing v well. I work, walk and the drugs I take are keeping it in check. Ive had radio, chemo, immumotherapy and hormone blockers. Im still on immuno and hormones and will stay on them for ever.
There are different subtypes of stage 4: hormone (er/pr) positive. Her2 (a genetic protein gone wrong) positive: triple positive (hormone and her2 are feeding and driving the cancer) and triple negative where the cancer isnt fuelled by hormones or her2. Then there is the brac gene too.

So Im triple positive. Its fuelled by everything. This means switching off hormones and using Her2 drugs such as herceptin puts my cancer into inactivity. Triple positive, altho the most aggressive cancer has a relatively good outcome and many women are about living with it for many years. Ill never be cured and at some point the cancer will wake up and mutate but at the moment the onc says its in submission. I feel v v well.

I dont know what Sarah had or even if she had the gene which she could have had. She was getting weekly chemo which meant maybe triple neg or hormone as her2 treatment is every 3 weeks. She may have been resistent and ploughed thro treatment lines quickly.

My only symptom at 36 was an itchy nipple. That was dcis or pre cancer..I had a mastectomy and recon. 14 years later it came back out of the blue in my recon at 1cm and bones and liver. So yes check yourself for sure but insist any change is investigated. I have been lucky to get 14 yrs cancer free.
