Preschool

DS is due to start preschool this week. He hasn't been to nursery or preschool before. Preschool haven't really stated what he needs to take and have left it up to parents on what they leave / take each day. Please can you tell me if I'm missing anything.

To leave at preschool:

  • inhaler
  • wellies
  • raincoat

To take in bag:

  • spare clothes
  • spare pants
  • pack up
  • water bottle
  • suncream
  • sunhat

Thank you

Sounds like you have it covered, as long as you have prepared a Care Plan with the Pre-school ?

nimbuscloud · 04/09/2021 23:07

Are the preschool staff aware that he may need an inhaler ?
The rest is grand

I'd leave the sunscreen at school as there will be days that turn sunny later.

Nappy sacks/carrier bags so that wet clothes can be contained.

They're aware of the inhaler, yes.
Great idea about the nappy bags for wet clothes! I've labelled the suncream so will check that can be left with the wellies, thank you!

My bag of spare clothes and is in the leave there column rather than the daily bag unless a change has been necessary. Same for sunhat. The less I need to remember to bring home and take back again the better!

Ours also provides suncream so you might not need that.

Will you need a water bottle? Mine have never taken a packed lunch but even if food isn't provided they will provide drinks surely?

Di11y · 05/09/2021 07:34

Our school asked us to apply the long lasting suncream at the start of the day as they didn't apply.

I left a change of clothes and a sun hat. Took in water bottle and coat daily. Didn't need wellies, but the other place my eldest went to was happy to keep a set.

HungryHippo11 · 05/09/2021 07:36

Our preschool don't apply suncream, you had to put it on before they arrived, so might be worth checking that. Otherwise, sounds grand.

MiloAndEddie · 05/09/2021 07:38

All that stuff stays at ours, if they’ve had an accident they bag it up in a nappy bag and just hand that over.
Makes like very easy!

ChuckMater · 05/09/2021 09:58

Okay thank you everyone, interesting points about the suncream!! I'll put it on before he goes then ask when we get there what their procedure is.

I'm sure if there wasn't a water bottle they would provide water but I know when we looked round they all had their own shelf with their bottles on so I'd rather he had one that he knew was his that he could access whenever he needed it.

Wellies and coats are being left there as 2 days are forest school and they have access to outside all day on the other days if they choose it.

I’d consider getting him waterproof trousers or a puddle suit, especially if they do forest school. Probably not needed absolutely immediately though. Ditto hat and gloves (and spare gloves) for winter.

ChuckMater · 05/09/2021 22:39

Thank you custard cream. I need to get another puddlesuit for him so we don't end up without one at home but I'm definitely planning on finding a second hand / cheap one for winter at preschool. They did say they've got some spare puddlesuits for the children to use but I don't want to rely on them if there isn't enough.

I spoke to them regarding suncream today and they're happy to reapply throughout the day :) I think there's only around 8 children the first term of each year as its quite a small preschool
