Yoto player - anyone have one? What about the club membership?

Considering getting a yoto player for my children. I saw you can also join a club for £12.99, which gives new cards etc every month.

First is the yoto player worth the money?

And is the club worth joining?

And also - does anyone have a referral code?

Yoto is brilliant! DD (2.5) loves it and she listens to it every day. The club is good too I think. We are pausing as we have a lot of cards atm as we got a lot from my parents as a gift so don't need any more for now, but DD got very excited when it arrived each month! At the moment she's obsessed with the Gruffalo, and she's able to find the card in the wallet and put it on herself whenever she wants to listen to it, and then she'll get the book and we'll read along with the audio. The animal noises card is also a hit! And the nursery rhymes ones are good too.

Yoto radio is surprisingly good - I sometimes listen to it when DD is at nursery! And the daily podcast is good - we listen at lunchtimes.

I have a code: prz.io/1v3enjzF0

Also I think the Yotos have more longevity than the Tonie players, which we also looked at, and the cards are a lot cheaper. The age range on Yoto seems to go quite high v the Tonies, which seem to be more for toddlers and preschool kids.

Thank you, sylvanas! That’s so good to know. And thank you for the code! Smile

That’s very helpful about the club too. Are the new cards that arrive each month good stories?

Yes, they're just cards that are about to come out on the shop, so they're the same quality as all the other ones, just new releases so you get them first before they are purchasable. So they're good if you like a mix of stuff - they can be stories or songs. We got a really good music one that DD loves and I wouldn't have thought about buying it myself!

TheWorldKickedBack · 04/09/2021 18:09

We got one for my dd when she was about 2. She's now 5 and likes to fall asleep to the night time radio. Her sister who is 8 really wants one so we have got her one for Christmas. They enjoy taking it into the playhouse to listen to stories. Lots of cards for older kids and you can put your own music onto the blank cards

Yotopl · 04/09/2021 19:28

TheWorldKickedBack thank you! That’s helpful. I’m so glad it sounds like a good buy rather than too much money!

An added bonus is that it also works like a Gro clock where you can set when you want it to be morning and night time and it will change the clock screen accordingly

We have a Tonie Box which belongs to my 4 (almost 5) year old. Her Sister is 7 and they fight over it so I'm getting the 7 year old a Yoto player for Christmas. I think she'll love it!

despondentatwork · 04/09/2021 21:59

Best thing I've ever bought my kids. And I have 4, eldest is 16 so I have years' experience of buying 'stuff'. My 7yo son is especially attached to it. I read to mine daily but could never read as much as the Yoto does & I think it's the Yoto which has instilled the love of stories he has. My 9yo DD loves it too. Hours of daily listening in this house! Tried Kindle & Audible but the Web access & poor volume meant it didn't work for us. My sisters have both bought their kids one now....

Yotopl · 04/09/2021 22:28

So glad to hear this!

Did you do the club, despondentatwork?

What do people think about the cover (the adventure jacket)? Is it necessary?

@SylvanasWindrunner I just bought one and used your code. Saved about £15 so thank you! Very excited to get a big Christmas present so early!

Yotopl · 10/09/2021 19:37

@SylvanasWindrunner Just wanted to say thank you! I used your code and the player arrived today and I am delighted with it.

Will try the club for a month or two as well.

Thank you so much for your advice and the code! Smile

I don't if I ask a few questions as I've been looking into something like this!

  • Is the club £12.99/month?
  • presumably if you don't joint the club, you buy each story standalone?
  • someone mentioned daily podcast, how does that work?

Sorry, just trying to work out if it's what will work for us!

ImFree2doasiwant · 10/09/2021 19:59

We have one, dc ages 4 and 6, they both like it. Use it every night at bedtime, listen to yoto daily, radio and lots of cards. Both DC will take themselves off for the bit of quiet time with it. We don't gave the jacket but might have done if they were younger. We do have the card folder which is good.

I cancelled the club, I didn't feel it was good value , and while it arriving each month caused excitement, they weren't really interested in the cards. I will buy a chosen card each month instead.

ImFree2doasiwant · 10/09/2021 20:01

Yoto daily cones on when you press the right button. Press again and you get radio. You can listen to the daily at any time of the day

Rainallnight · 10/09/2021 20:07

I think I’m the exception here but it hasn’t really caught on in our house. I’m not sure why - DD likes books, likes music, likes listening to things…

I really hate the lack of a rewind function on the stories. It’s beyond daft

SylvanasWindrunner · 10/09/2021 20:11

Aww, hope all your little ones enjoy it! Grin

Yes, £12.99 and you get two random cards that aren't out in the shop yet. And you can just buy the story cards on the shop (and our local children's bookshop sells them too). You can also get blank cards and just put what you want on.

The daily podcast is a mix of things like jokes, quizzes, etc. and you can either insert the card for it or just do what PP said and press the button. You can change what the buttons do in the Yoto app.

Muststopeating · 11/09/2021 11:00

I'm planning to buy one of these for our kids for Christmas (in an effort to avoid adding more plastic to an already overloaded playroom).

Does anyone know if its worth waiting for Black Friday or is the 10% off referral code about as good as it gets?

Also does anyone have any music cards that they'd recommend (kids will be 3&4)?

SylvanasWindrunner · 11/09/2021 11:12

Not sure about the sale, but we got Musical Dots via Yoto Club and the songs are super catchy! There's one about vegetables that I always find myself singing. We have some nursery rhyme ones: there's one with the Wheels on the Bus as the front pic that is good. The Toybox one is a more eccentric take on nursery rhymes too.
