Toilet Brush musings

If bleach kills all known germs dead, surely the toilet brush is one of the 'cleanest' items in the house?

Not on Mumsnet... work of the devil

TSSDNCOP · 04/09/2021 12:38

It's MN, you aren't allowed bleach either. Get your hand down there OP like absolutely no one you ever met in real life

I got one of the silicone ones from Amazon the other day it's fab. No poo water stuck in the bristles dripping when you take it out of the toilet and collecting in the little bucket.

From a germs perspective you're possibly right, in that microbobes would be killed off by the bleach but it's still covered in bits of poo.

Eh, can't get too fussed about it, anything you use to clean a toilet is going to be a bit manky if you think too hard about it, but never understand the MN bog-brush aversion. It's a useful tool to scrub a place you don't want to get too hands on with.

I hold mine that's been swirled in bleach under a hard flush. I wouldn't clean my teeth with it, but the MN notion it sits covered in festering poo is a little delicate I always think.

I fill my toilet brush pot up with bleach.

I prefer.to use a toilet brush to donning rubber gloves and cleaning the toilet with a cloth as it is more distanced! I also rinse it under a big flush, yes it doesn't look sparkly white anymore but it also isn't crusted with poo

Chicchicchicchiclana · 04/09/2021 12:58

I think I'm going to get one of those silicone ones you see advertised on Facebook.

I never use bleach in the loo by the way, the smell makes me gip. I don't use it full stop, except for cleaning mould off if it happens.

A nice fresh pine toilet duck does us.

I don’t get the toilet brush hate on Mumsnet. You clean the toilet and put it back in the holder. Then throw it away when it gets old. No one is going to be licking it or rubbing their hands on it. Hmm I think it’s the only way to get the toilet really clean.

Tangledtresses · 04/09/2021 15:08

It's definitely a MN weird one.... everyone has a loo brush!
And bleach and harpic 100% well they do in London 'hard water'

Heruka · 04/09/2021 15:16

Yes is v weird. I think it is possible to both not use bleach and not have a toilet brush constantly crusted with poo, if you rinse it. I don’t see a toilet brush as something that should be sparkling clean- it goes down a loo and I’m not going to be licking it!!
