Head growth increase - Worried

Hello

So I’m really anxious about my baby. He had his 6 week check with the HV yesterday and all seems well apart from he’s had a massive jump in his head growth. His head measured 33.6cm (between 9&25th centile) at birth and has increased to 39cm (75th centile) in just 6 weeks. HV said his head looks a nice shape etc and didn’t seem overly concerned but has referred me to be seen by gp which we are going to anyway for his gp 6 week check next week.

I have stupidly googled and am now worried he has something seriously wrong with him such as hydrocephalus etc.

Has anyone gone through anything similar and everything been fine? It’s the rapid increase in growth I'm concerned about and especially in relation to his height and weight (25th centile).

I’m so anxious and can’t stop looking at his head and worrying. X

Stay away from Google! Our baby got referred for all sorts of issues with head measurements - turns out they'd written one of them down wrong Grin If the HV isn't overly concerned then you don't need to be either, just go along to the GP next week and see what they say.

Ah we're similar mine was 35cm at birth and at 3 months check he was 42cm so up to 95 centile. Baby was 25 centile for weight and height and now 75 centile for both. We're back on Tuesday to see if her head is grown bigger again or if she's gotten fatter 🙄
Stop worrying, it will be fine.x

My two boys were both over 99th centile at birth for HC. I mentioned it at the 6 week check and we were referred to hospital for two scans 3m apart. There were no problems, DH and I both have big heads too.

Rapid growth can be a sign of several conditions but most of the time it's fine.

The scans were not traumatic, baby laid on a table in a doctors office and she had a handheld scan she ran over his head. There were no tears and it was done in a few minutes.

Thank you for your replies. It’s so worrying and google definitely doesn’t help so I definitely have to stop doing that. X
