Would a hotel give me a discount?

I experienced some sickness this summer and my GP referred me to the hospital for a procedure. There's a waiting list and I have now idea when I will be given an appointment. I'm thinking maybe after Christmas. Im not in the UK by the way. I'm a public patient and I don't have any health insurance.

The procedure my GP referred me for is a colonoscopy. I never had one done. I read up online about it. I'm not nervous about the procedure itself but the day before the procedure, you have to fast except for clear liquids and also you have to take laxatives to clear out your insides. It's called prep online. I'm not looking forward to the prep but I am looking forward to getting cleaned out. I think there might be a night feeling being lighter.

Anyways I have no peace and privacy at home. I'm thinking about for when I'm called for the procedure, I'm thinking about booking 2 nights in a hotel in the city. It would be close to the hospital. I could pack a luggage bag with bottles of water and the laxatives and some of my own towels and baby wipes and an overnight bag and other supplies. I think it might make the process easier. I don't have any dates but rooms are usually expensive. Later on down the line when I get the details for the procedure, if I was to call into a hotel in the city and explain my situation, would they give me a discount? Would it be cheeky of me to ask for a discount? I would like 2 nights two one for the prep evening and the day after for after the hospital procedure.

Does anyone here work at front dest for a hotel? Would you give a discount under special circumstances.

You shit your brains out before a colonoscopy, they’re likely to charge you double.

P.S you want to invest in sudocreme or bepanthen. Speaking from experience.

BroccoliFloret · 04/09/2021 12:44

What are your "special circumstances"? You want to book a room and use that room. So you pay the price.

The rest is irrelevant.

@Libertynan damn you woman, that finished me. Nice job MN posters, best thread for weeks.

Oh, Bravo!
healmebaby · 04/09/2021 12:56

genuinely asking: what special circumstances!?

Lemuriformes · 04/09/2021 18:31

What PP have sad. It’s not that big a deal. You’re not leaking from the laxative, it’s just a couple of extra shits.

Driftingblue · 04/09/2021 18:41

Some hospitals and nearby hotels do have a discount code for patients that are needing to book a room near the hospital for whatever reason. It’s always based on availability and general demand so the deal isn’t always that great, but it can save a bit of money.

If having a personal loo for the night will ease your stress and you can afford a hotel, then it’s a decent plan, just don’t share the information with the hotel staff. Alternatively, you could send your family away and you could stay in the comfort of your own home while they enjoy a night at a hotel.

PerpendicularVincent · 04/09/2021 19:58

Wanting to shit in a hotel isn't a special circumstance.

Also the stuff they give you cleans you out at lightning fast speed, I would honestly stay home with vaseline, ice cold toilet roll, sudocrem and your dignity .

Pokhora · 04/09/2021 20:02

Maybe if you were staying here....

Would a hotel give me a discount?
Pinkyjack · 04/09/2021 20:44

They may change you more under the circumstances because of the over use of water and washing facilities so I would keep quite lol

seriousandloyal · 04/09/2021 21:12

Have cried laughing at some of these!
OP if you are actually seriously asking this question then the answer is no, they definitely will not give you a discount!!

Nsky · 04/09/2021 21:15

Def no

whatsthecraic91 · 04/09/2021 21:22

Jesus Christ 😂😂😂

PigletJohn · 04/09/2021 21:22

You say you are not in the UK so it may be different.

Hotels cut prices when they have empty rooms earning nothing and want to attract business.

If you register with some budget chains they may tell you about special offers.

For example hotels in business areas are often empty on Friday nights when all the business people go home.

Hotels in tourist areas are very busy at weekends and holiday periods.

Don't tell them you won't be eating in the restaurant because they make big profits on food and wine.

Hereforthelaughs2020 · 04/09/2021 21:24

Hahahahaha 😂😂

TrainspottingWelsh · 04/09/2021 21:27

I think it's a very reasonable question. Companies often negotiate a discount for regular bookings, large groups might get a discount for bulk bookings, why on earth wouldn't they offer a manky arse discount?

crumpet · 04/09/2021 22:03

No. This is not a good reason to ask for a discount. However if you rang them on the day, and they are keen to use up a room, then you might get a discount that way.

memberofthewedding · 05/09/2021 00:51

I think some of you are being a bit harsh on OP. Colonoscopy is not a pleasant procedure. However I do agree with the posters who say that the prep is the worst part. I can understand a person who is very private hating that part of it if they have no privacy at home. I found it a trial and I live alone and have loos upstairs and down.

I do not think you will need two nights at the hotel. One night should be sufficient. I would not mention the circumstances but simply ask for their best price for a single room.

An added consideration is that if you intend to have the anesthetic at the procedure the hospital may insist upon you having a companion drive you home and stay with you for 12 hours. This is what I was told. I took a taxi as my relative did not drive and he was fine to leave me after just a couple of hours at home. It depends upon what conditions the hospital advises.

YourFinestPantaloons · 05/09/2021 00:54

@Mariell

Ring ring!

Receptionist - “Hello, Fairytale Hotel, how may I help you?”

OP - “I have a colonoscopy on the 17th so need to book a nearby hotel room as I want to have a good clear out of my bowels and wonder if you would be so kind as to give a me a discount on the room, please?”

Receptionist - sound of dry heaving.

Line goes dead.

😂😂😂😂
seaandsandcastles · 05/09/2021 04:17

What? Why would they give you a discount? Confused

Exactly why you need the room is totally irrelevant to them.

EmmalineC · 05/09/2021 07:02

@Shapesorted

Why is there so much additional and unnecessary information in your post? Envy
Poo troll?

Everyone knows what a colonoscopy entails, don't they?

And no, OP, you shouldn't ask for a discount and I don't understand why you think you'd be entitled to one.

rattlemehearties · 05/09/2021 07:14

Another "serious" reply - after the prep you'll feel absolutely ravenous and light headed and awful (you're empty!) so you'll need someone to take you to hospital. All would be much easier at home.

ghostyslovesheets · 05/09/2021 13:34

my serious reply - the prep is fine - bit unpleasant but as long as you follow the bland diet before hand it's not too bad - I drove myself there and back (via Maccies!) it's not major surgery you really don;t need a hotel!
