Would a hotel give me a discount?

I experienced some sickness this summer and my GP referred me to the hospital for a procedure. There's a waiting list and I have now idea when I will be given an appointment. I'm thinking maybe after Christmas. Im not in the UK by the way. I'm a public patient and I don't have any health insurance.

The procedure my GP referred me for is a colonoscopy. I never had one done. I read up online about it. I'm not nervous about the procedure itself but the day before the procedure, you have to fast except for clear liquids and also you have to take laxatives to clear out your insides. It's called prep online. I'm not looking forward to the prep but I am looking forward to getting cleaned out. I think there might be a night feeling being lighter.

Anyways I have no peace and privacy at home. I'm thinking about for when I'm called for the procedure, I'm thinking about booking 2 nights in a hotel in the city. It would be close to the hospital. I could pack a luggage bag with bottles of water and the laxatives and some of my own towels and baby wipes and an overnight bag and other supplies. I think it might make the process easier. I don't have any dates but rooms are usually expensive. Later on down the line when I get the details for the procedure, if I was to call into a hotel in the city and explain my situation, would they give me a discount? Would it be cheeky of me to ask for a discount? I would like 2 nights two one for the prep evening and the day after for after the hospital procedure.

Does anyone here work at front dest for a hotel? Would you give a discount under special circumstances.

Eyyyy?!

Mariell · 03/09/2021 20:43

Where do you draw the line op? Just the hotel or are you going to try it in when you buy a ticket for a train or bus or get in a cab?

Cab driver - “Where would you like to go ma’am?”

OP -To the hospital please. To the back entrance! (Sorry OP couldn’t resist that!)

Cabbie - “Certainly ma’am.”

OP enjoys a pleasant hornet making small talk with the cab driver.

Cabbie - “That will be £10.85 please.”

OP - “Well the thing is I’m having a tube stuck up my arse and I was wondering if you would knock a couple of quid off the fare ....?”

Cabbie - “No. Pay up or I’ll call the police.”

OP - Pays the Cabbie the full amount and leaves the cab leaving him with a bottom toot as she climbs out of the car!

Thanks for all of the replies. Some of them have been hilarious. OK, I won't ask for a discount for my special circumstances. I might try and haggle on a room. Don't need to worry about it yet.

I was referred for a colonoscopy and I've waited 18 months only to be told it's now another 3 years to the top of the list in our area!!! I couldn't believe it. I'm going to try to get back to the GP but I'm not sure what they can do.

So if your list is anything like my list it could be a long while.

JovialNickname · 03/09/2021 20:47

Yes sorry OP, I don't think you're going to find a hotel where the price is inversely correlated with the volume of poo you're going to produce when you get there. Sorry

CattyMcNips · 03/09/2021 20:49

"Hi, can I have a discount so I can shit in peace?"

tbh I'd probably find it so amusing I'd give you one... but ask that you leave housekeeping a BIG tip!

SW1amp · 03/09/2021 20:53

If anything, the hotel should charge you more

You won’t be using the bar and restaurant, so they can’t make any money from you there
And it sounds like there would be an extra cleaning task at the end, so added expenses for them

CoastalMum101 · 03/09/2021 20:54

It’s always worth phoning and asking a hotel what the best price they can do is, especially if you’ve got a quote via a third party such as booking.com. Phoning them to ask for a discount because you want to shit in peace but will provide your own towels, baby wipes and laxatives is probably less likely to be successful.

@Mariell

Op rings back.

Ring ring!

Receptionist - “Hello, Fairytale Hotel, how may I help you?”

OP - we got cut off. I’ll be bringing extra bog roll and a can of air freshener....”

Receptionist interrupts the OP - “Please stop calling ....”

Line goes dead.

Hotel receptionist receives another phone call -

Ring Ring!

Receptionist - “WE DO NOT WANT YOU AND YOUR BOTTOM HOLE STAYING AT OUR HOTEL...!

Caller - “this is your manager Joyce and you’re fired.....”

LMAOOO laughing on a friday night
DownWhichOfLate · 03/09/2021 20:58

Don’t you need to be collected by a responsible adult after the procedure? So the hotel idea wouldn’t work anyhow.

Mammyloveswine · 03/09/2021 20:59

This site just gets more batshit..

Sorry op but no I don't think you'll get a discount for needing to use the hotel to clear your bowels.

ThisOldSaddo · 03/09/2021 21:02

Don't feed it.

Dandy0911 · 03/09/2021 21:03

A discount so you can use their toilet to shit brown rain for a few hours?

Hahahahahahahahahaha

No

TractorAndHeadphones · 03/09/2021 21:05

Sorry op but no I don't think you'll get a discount for needing to use the hotel to clear your bowels.

This is far more entertaiing than all the silly arguments over who said what!
Mariell · 03/09/2021 21:05

Who else is thinking of phoning The Savoy and making a prank call using the OP’s story?

Maybeyesno · 03/09/2021 21:12

I had a colonoscopy as a single parent with 4 month old twins (I was breast feeding) and a 5 year old. Only had childcare for the time I was in hospital. You don't need two nights in a hotel and you definitely don't need a discount. You just get on with it.
If you have the sedation you'll probably not be able to be discharged if you haven't got any one with you. I had gas and air only in order to carry on feeding twins it was fine.

LubaLuca · 03/09/2021 21:14

There are no special circumstances here. You want to stop in a hotel because that would be convenient for you just like everyone else who wants to stop in a hotel.

Don't mention the shitting rusty water for hours on end when you call to haggle - that is the opposite of a sweetener (a savourier? an unsavourier? Confused).

RainforestLizard · 03/09/2021 21:16

I'm crying with laughter.

OP, don't be absolutely ridiculous! No, just no.

RattyMamam · 03/09/2021 21:17

I had a colonoscopy and was on the bus home and hour later to make dinner. Why do you think you need 2 nights in a hotel?! Confused

Tooembarrassingtomention · 03/09/2021 21:18

It is a minor procedure.
I have sedation and still go back to work straight after

Roonilwazlib1 · 03/09/2021 21:21

@Mariell

Ring ring!

Receptionist - “Hello, Fairytale Hotel, how may I help you?”

OP - “I have a colonoscopy on the 17th so need to book a nearby hotel room as I want to have a good clear out of my bowels and wonder if you would be so kind as to give a me a discount on the room, please?”

Receptionist - sound of dry heaving.

Line goes dead.

Christ alive this made me laugh! Grin
BigWhooper · 03/09/2021 21:22

Yeah like I had a colonoscopy while I was breastfeeding quintuplets AND I have no arsehole. I went back to my 15 hour days in a goldmine before the anaesthetic wore off without even considering asking for help. You need to be more resilient OP.

AlbusSeverusMalfoy · 03/09/2021 21:24

Just so you know Prep stuff will not make you feel 'cleaned out' or 'lighter'. Your insides will churn, you will feel sore, heavy, bloated and hungry. You will weigh less but you will not feel better at all. You'll be scared to fart.

Mariell · 03/09/2021 21:27

Can you please explain exactly why you think your circumstances are special?
